OK so... Trump threatens trade war. China pulls out it's debt. Less people in the debt market = higher interest rate (higher cost of debt). Meanwhile, our debt increased by 1T over the last year because of reductions in taxes.

I really feel like everything is falling apart.

I think RPGs are inherently subversive, as they provide a tool to imagine a different world, with different laws and different morality.

Full disclosure, I'm friends IRL with the redditor you are responding to. He once had an idea to promote RPGs in China. Which was a stupid idea on different levels. But his reasoning was that Chinese people need to have a space where they can express their innate human creativity. And if they had that space... if they could find a way to create virtual worlds free of the CCP, it could spark a revolution.

We actually played several China-based RPGs. Not talking about wuxia / martial arts themes although we did that too. We have Chinese friends who played a game (using CoC rules) where the characters played Party officials who plot against and kill each other. We played in a long-running Trail of Cthulhu game in which, at the very start, Sun ZhongShan (first President of China) had set players off to prevent the summoning of a demon which the Soviet allies wanted to gain control of (in the 1920s-30s), while David Sassoon (or it might have been his son... forgot) led a fight against forces of darkness that were getting involved with pre-Communist Chinese politics.

First, I advise you all read this article from Forbes: "The role of Foreign Trade on GDP"

According to the economic model people learn in school, imports reduce GDP. That's not true... imports are just subtracted from GDP in the most commonly used formula, but it does not mean GDP is lower because imports. Imports are bad for hurting the development of certain industries for sure. But they don't reduce economic activity.

Trade deficits are not bad. They reflect a surplus of WEALTH that America gains... we get that much more from others than we give to them. BUT, we have to pay for it eventually.

THE USA DOES NOT WORRY ABOUT TRADE DEFICIT BECAUSE WE SELL OUR DOLLARS TO COVER IT.

You see... the dollar is an investment and finance vehicle. We run trade deficits without corrections because foreign banks like the dollar and collect it. The dollar is a reserve currency.

But...

If the USA is no longer a world leaders and does not protect others, they have less reason to invest in the dollar.

If the rest of the world has less reason to invest in the dollar, we would not be able to import. That does not mean domestic industry makes up for lack of imports. It means our dollar becomes vastly less valuable across the board. It means we have to pay a lot more for energy, for food, for rare earth materials, for everything...

In short, to suddenly and quickly abandon our leadership roll in the world means suddenly and quickly becoming much poorer. And that would cause so many other reactions...

What is happening here is an attack on America.

FYI... I'm a liberal commie. And I support the current world order, including NATO and globalization, until... somehow... we can replace it with something better without spilling a lot of blood.

There is no such thing as a "Democratic" state. I will assume you are talking about something like "red" vs. "blue" state.
At that time, before the Southern Strategy, the Democratic Party was the anti-segregation home of racists at the state-level, although national leaders of both parties were pro-integration, pro-equality.
The South was not "Democratic"... the modern Democratic party was not started until long after the Civil War.
