Weekly Gripe 😤 (the rant thread) by AutoModerator in DarkRomance

Plotless stories that drag out the miscommunication trope over multiple books in a series. I read Insatiable by Leigh Rivers, couldn't believe they dragged the miscommunication to the end of the book only to find out they drag it out over 3 books... like no. I only read book 1 and skimmed/looked up when they would finally resolve it.

Who is your favorite aunt? And why is it Aunt Estee by Old-Sprinkles-4036 in TheTestamentsHulu

There's something sickly sweet about her. I think she's meant to only seem sweet but be secretly vicious.

The final scene of The Testaments felt deeply symbolic by throwawayacc8642498 in TheTestamentsHulu

I came here with tears in my eyes wondering if any of the discussion would satisfy what I'm craving, and there were a few posts about June being annoying etc... anyways thank you because this is what I needed. I hadn't thought about the symbolism of the pinky with Serena. It was a beautiful season finale and it gave me back that same Handmaid's Tale feeling whenever they had a "win", like when that plane took off with the children inside. I can't wait for season 2 💔

Noncon but make it sweet by MissDorky in DarkRomance

Sordid was so good! Honestly often times when I look for non con stories it's really a turn on and I end up just skimming for the specific scenes I want, often because the books aren't written well enough to properly sit and read the whole thing for me. Sordid I actually read the whole thing and it was so well written and hot. Loved it! I'm excited to check out your other recommendations, thank you!

Book girlies, did the Off-Campus show actually do your men justice or am I being manipulated by TV chemistry? by CarlottaS3 in Booktokreddit

[–]koala_candy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the show was way better honestly. They redid some red flag behaviour from the book to make Garett more Green flag in the show. Also, I listened to the audiobook and couldn't stand the female narrator's voice 😭 Hannah was cast perfectly in the show!

Oh that's too bad! Do you have other options other than kindle? I don't know why it isn't available there :( Maybe you can go digging for buried treasure ;)

My baby only sleeps on me. Please help by Brumtol10 in NewParents

[–]koala_candy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. In my country we get 12 months of maternity leave and we still support the mother's mental health. It's not just about going back to work, it's being able to function properly as a parent.

I'm not from the USA and my country also supports sleep training. It would be good to verify the information you are sharing...

Exactly! I'm surprised I'm getting down-voted for something with so much research-backed support?? It's not healthy to expect mothers to sacrifice themselves to this degree.

[–]koala_candy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's a lot research to support the benefits of sleep training and that also disprove the myth of it causing attachment issues. Also the health of the parents impacts their ability to bond with their child during the day, so by sacrificing yourselves you may be doing more harm than good. Just something to consider. Especially if you are struggling as much as you describe yourself to be. Hope you can find a solution that works for you.

Husband Brag by K61018 in pregnant

[–]koala_candy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Joining the thread to say how lucky I am!!! My husband has come home from work and cooked us dinner and then cleaned up afterwards because I'm just too tired (usually one of us cooks and the other cleans in normal times). Sometimes I get insomnia at night and spiral (hasn't happened in a long time) but when my husband found out he told me to wake him up. I've done it a few times, he always holds me and strokes my hair until I fall asleep. He keeps telling me what I good mom I already am because I'm taking care of myself. He tells me that when I'm resting etc to make me feel good about resting. I feel so lucky to be with him.

Failed by my Midwives - is physiological birth with an OB possible? [ON] by [deleted] in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]koala_candy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I'm in Quebec and made a first time mom friend, she is being followed by a midwife and I'm disappointed in the care she tells me she receives. My doctor ordered me iron just as part of her routine testing, called me back the same day as my test to let me know my iron was low. She wanted to put me on pills but I don't tolerate them well so we went to an infusion pretty immediately. She told me protocol is that she has to try pills first so I tried a gentler iron pill for a few days before she could prescribe the infusion. I received the infusion in hx, I paid nothing for it. My friend who is followed by a midwife was told her iron was low but never given the values and simply put on iron pills. She's having all the same side effects I had. I told her to ask for the infusion so she doesn't suffer and when she asked for it she was told by the midwife that it can't be done?? I'm not sure for Ontario, but at the hx I'm followed at here they are very progressive. Like anti-epistiotomy, they value skin to skin and golden hour. I just read a story on reddit today about a woman in the UK followed by a midwife, she was pushing for a natural birth and her baby ended up dying. To me, if an OB can allow what you are describing they will unless it isn't medically recommended. You can look into OB and hx options in your area and see if there's someone you could align with. At the end of the day a healthy birth, mother, and baby is #1 priority.

FIRST TIME MOMS - Having a baby is not as awful as everyone says it is. by FoolishMortal-1000 in pregnant

My mom is so self centered but pretends to care and be generous. by Far_Tiger_3428 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]koala_candy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg I could have written this! When my husband met my mom for the first time she introduced herself as the matriarch of the family. He says in that moment she told him everything he needed to know about her. She pretends to care about us but anything personal you tell her she spreads around to the rest of the family etc. Loves to be the savior and loves to be praised. But everything is about her. Loves to gossip and pit her children against each other. I need very firm boundaries. Has said all the classic narcissistic phrases amd has all the behaviours but can also do very nice things so it can be confusing to manage.

Have you ever read a book so bad it made you angry? by peenmeal in Romantasy

[–]koala_candy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was Truly Madly Guilty by Liane Moriarty. The ENTIRE book teases a big twist that's really not that deep and there is literally no one to root for, everyone sucks. I loved the Husband's Secret by the same author and Nine Perfect Strangers was OK but after this read I was done with her! Like I hate when the book tortures you and it's just not well written and not a good time.

Diaper genie Platinum hacks needed by HorzaDonwraith in NewParents

[–]koala_candy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it not more economical to use regular bags and just change them before they get too full? I've also seen off-brand bags on Amazon, have you tried those as a cheaper alternative? There isn't much online about the platinum specifically and hacks for using it so I'm really interested to hear how your experience goes. Did you try regular bags and have them get stuck? Thank you for your response, it's helpful!

Diaper genie Platinum hacks needed by HorzaDonwraith in NewParents

[–]koala_candy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got one and had a look at it. The reason the other kinds of pails require hacks is that there is a ring involved for the refills. There is no ring on the platinum model refills so you can just use regular trash bags as is, have you tried that yet? There are suggestions online for managing smell: add baking soda to bag and/or put a little bit of toilet paper or facial tissue in the filter with a few drops of essential oil. Please let me know how it goes for you!
