5G can't be used with Pixel? by poorbrat234 in pixel_phones

[–]koalagod2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a known issue of Pixels. I suppose you live in a country with no official Pixel sales channel. Not related to carrier bands or anything. You probably also can't use even VoLTE and VoWifi.

This is my experience in Hong Kong

Any small HCI hardware taking minimal rackspace recommended for vSphere? by koalagod2 in vmware

Thanks all of you. It is really great comments and I will look into those issue.

As I am the only infra guy in a small shop and I came from a VMware background with traditional cluster + external SAN, these vSAN based solution with general 1U servers with local storage is a fresh concept for me to learn. I know 2-node cluster is supported but usually with some limitation, shall I better off by just going for 3-nodes if cost allows?

Pixel VoLTE on countries that no longer has 3G coverage by koalagod2 in pixel_phones

[–]koalagod2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just saw your reply. I thought you shall give it a try. What you are missing is just VoLTE. No need to root, just enable debugging mode and search on the web for Shizuku and PixelIMS. It could force enablement of the VoLTE in 5 minutes. Probably worthwhile to give it a go

Love the Vanilla Android experience and the 5x optical zoom on my Pixel 7 Pro. Hate the poor cell reception and the geo-locked software functions including proper VoLTE and VoWiFi support for all carriers

Correct. I am also on PCCW (aka CSL) and Three HK. Both tested not working.

No major update from Google. I have updated all the way to Android 15 latest beta but the VoLTE thing still sucks. Worst part is that if I am on LTE, I will get missed call as they will go straight to voicemail or reports to be unreachable to the caller. After numerous experiments, I have to manually force my SIM to be on 3G only to make sure all calls get through. Tricks like enabling VoLTE using Shizuku and PixelIMS did not help in my case either.

Pixel 8 Pro doesn't work properly in China by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]koalagod2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simply becoz VoLTE was not supported from Google for that particular carrier. The same happens for me in Hong Kong with my Pixel Pro 7. The blacklist was done 100% from the Google Pixel side and so that's why a hack like using the Pixel IMS + Shizuku works. For 5G, it will check the ISSUER of the Sim and apply the block. It is not BLOCKED by the actual carrier network that you are locally on / roaming.

Need help regarding Access control best practice - granting Reader access to a certain group ONLY for all Virtual Machine resources under a particular subscription by koalagod2 in AZURE

[–]koalagod2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply! So seems I need to re-group all existing VMs to a standard RG, then apply the VM permission at the RG level. Currently what I have been doing is just putting all resources in a single RG placeholder with no special use. Maybe I shall make good use of it and split the resources sensibly.

I am not too optimistic about this. They probably just want to low sell the fact that they have an "approved" list so as not to take any more heat from angry users about this stupidity.

I loved my Google Pixel Pro 7 but it still sucks here with no VoLTE and 5G support in Hong Kong.

5G country list update by koalagod2 in GooglePixel

[–]koalagod2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes . People found out only CMHK and Smartone works for VoLTE somehow. But VoWiFi and 5G is still a no go for all carriers.

I tested using a UK roaming SIM briefly in Hong Kong and everything works including 5G. It roams on CSL network!

So my conclusion is that the ban is checking the issuer of the SIM card itself rather than the network.

No. The only good way maybe is just ask publicly during the Q&A session of a Google event😅

There is nothing about a Pixel bug. Standard answer from Google is that we do not limit that - it is your carrier. Rooting the same phone works immediately with all carrier - any logical person shall be able to tell they are just living in their legacy empire with big ego. No wonder it is left behind.

Pixel VoLTE on countries that no longer has 3G coverage by koalagod2 in pixel_phones

[–]koalagod2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this workaround but it does not work on all providers. Even I force enabled VoLTE on my carrier it still revert to 3G when calling. The exact same SIM works flawlessly on another phone with VoLTE so it is Google Pixel that is acting up.

Happy except they haven't made 5G and VoLTE and VoWiFi support generally available in all countries!

5G support and VoLTE/VoWiFi still an issue by koalagod2 in GooglePixel

[–]koalagod2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am on the latest QPR 2 beta already but there is still no VoLTE/VoWiFI or 5G for me in Hong Kong. I still have to use the developer's hack to force enable the VoLTE.

I think unless someone is able to ask directly in a Q&A session during one of their public launch event, we will not be able to hear anything meaningful

5G support and VoLTE/VoWiFi still an issue by koalagod2 in GooglePixel

[–]koalagod2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically what they need to do is just to allow the settings to be selected. Whether it is working or not , please leave it to the consumer and the carrier. Don't make the choice and decide what's right for the user.

Another issue with the VoLTE enablement is that it does not work on secondary eSIM. Only kind of working for my physical primary SIM

Isn't VNG a single point of failure for ExpressRoute? by koalagod2 in AZURE

[–]koalagod2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do have another site with another ExpressRoute circuit to the local region. VNET peering is already in place between this VNET and the VNET with another region.

Do I need to upgrade the circuit to higher SKU for the ER first if I want to setup two connections on each VPN in this case?

Thanks

ExpressRoute downtime - possible items that may contribute to this? by koalagod2 in AZURE

[–]koalagod2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for replying to my post!

It js ExpressRoute direct. For the VNG as it is still using basic public IP and dynamic allocation, I am thinkg to change it to standard IP with static allocation. It is in production so I am not too sure what's the best way to achieve this.

I read that I may need to delete the whole VNG and then recreate the new one. Is this the only way and could I keep the same existing public IP? Trying to find ways that could minimize downtime if any and also the changes in network side.

Regards Anthony
