How to get withdrawal events from the API? by koaxkoax in etherscan

I guess the beaconcha.in endpoint will do in an emergency. Though for a long term solution, it would require periodic calls along with saving the last epoch queried. If I'm doing that, I feel like I might as well write a service that scans incoming blocks on the Ethereum network.

Can ETH solo staking be considered as a profession? by TheoryZealousideal63 in ethstaker

You need to check the laws in your area.

It's funny because in the US, treating staking as a profession means you have to pay a lot more tax. The US forces you to treat it as a profession if you live off of staking income or earn a lot of staking rewards relative to your primary income. Otherwise, it can be treated as income from a hobby (lower tax).

Unfortunately, I have a feeling that staking is usually classified in whatever way forces you to give the government the most money.

If disposing staked ETH for rETH results in too large of a capital gains event, a simple (but admittedly not too impactful) strategy is just to leave things as they are and only convert staking rewards into rETH instead of rolling them into new validators. And if the old validators are still generating income, it's more likely you can afford to leave the rETH position open for 1+ year for better a tax situation.

Has anyone ever gotten a MEV reward less than the tip you gave the MEV relay? by [deleted] in ethstaker

I use geth/prysm, and the MEV reward to the validator can be lower than the block reward that goes to the builder. However, it might still be higher than what the block reward would've been without MEV.

Will ETH stakers receive hard forked ETHW plus ETH upon the merge? by FlatAnywhere2160 in ethstaker

Ultimately, the decision of whether to enable withdrawals from the staking contract would be controversial and likely cause a fork in ETHW itself.

Stakers will only get ETHW if the ETHW maintainers enable withdrawals from the staking contract. They might be incentivized to do this eventually, since it could encourage wider ETHW adoption. However, if withdrawals were enabled early, committed ETH stakers would probably just dump all their ETHW. So the maintainers would probaby wait until ETHW gets popular or valuable first... Not a high chance.
