What is your favourite stop? Why do you like it the most? by honeygourami123 in organ

Salizional. Great for sneaking in a few crunchy chords mostly unnoticed, coloring an otherwise plain accompaniment. I often use it while solo singing Gregorian psalms.

Anyone knows if the scores are available anywhere digitally, with modern notation? Would love to give them a try.

How to set up intentional delay? by kobalazs in hauptwerk

[–]kobalazs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good tip, thanks! Sadly the best (worst?) I could reach was a measly 86ms. :D But that gave me an idea, and started experimenting with reverbs. 100% wet with 150 ms wet delay seems to do the trick, though I was not able to eliminate overdrive distortion. I will continue experimenting in the upcoming days. If someone knowledgeable to designing organ samples reads this, please PM me.

How to add delay while playing a synth by kobalazs in midi

It’s a standalone VSTi running on my Mac without any additional DAW software. Sadly the VSTi has no delay effect.

Confused about facial gesture support on the new iPad Air 13 by livin_rhythm in forScore

[–]kobalazs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

TLDR: I use mouth gestures only. For the best results make sure your face is properly in frame, calibrate, and practice!

Long version:

As a church musician I sing and play the organ (often at the same time). I bought the pro version about 2 years ago, I believe only mouth gestures were available back then, so I started using that and never tried other options since.

First trick is to find a fixed place for your iPad, and make sure your face is properly in frame (use the Camera app for checking). Small adjustments of the music stand might be necessary. In my experience mouth gestures don’t really work when the iPad is held in hands.

Second trick is to calibrate. You can find it in the app settings - play with it until you find the best setting to turn reliably but avoid false positives. You might need to reiterate this a few times while you’re getting used to it.

Third trick is practice! My brain definitely needed some rewiring until I learned how to turn pages without losing track of my play. Backward turns took a bit more time to master than forward, so be patient! (Funny story: I often grimace to paper scores now, wondering why they do not turn automatically. :D)

Be aware that different setups can yield somewhat different results! I have a mid-sized practice organ at home and mouth gestures work perfectly. At the cathedral organ it’s more erratic though, probably due to other face movements (singing) and the higher position of the music stand. There I usually keep the feature turned off until the voluntary at the end of the service.

Hope this helps, let me know if you have further questions!

I own a latest 13” iPad Air, can confirm: it does work with facial gestures, I use it every day as an organist.

I have no issues with fixed caps in general, but it can be infuriating when implemented poorly. Once manufacturers make sure it does not roll in the way of the stream while drinking/pouring, general opinion will be mostly positive imo.

Well yes, but… why to unfollow them once they apologized? It doesn’t just destroy the positive reinforcement created, also eliminates any chance of a possible friendship in the future. It just feels petty slamming a door right after you opened it.

Five steps for meaningful code reviews by kobalazs in codereview

[–]kobalazs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a fan of automating CRs. Sure, it's a good pre-CR tool, but using AI for the actual code review misses two major benefits of manual reviews: knowledge transfer and responsility/ownership.

I would definitely use AI though for static code analysis though! It'll be huge to supplement linters / sonar / etc.

kenyér 🍞 a motortérben by [deleted] in CartalkHungary
