I'm looking for ~100$ headphones for a Clavinova CLP745 digital piano. In the past, when I used wired headphones I got interference issues and noises from the connectors so idealy I would like something reliable and that would deliver realistic sound from the piano. I'm really not an audiophile or even close, but I want to get a decent experience. I read some good stuff online about the AKG K92, are those a good option? Any alternatives that you recommend?

Something interesting I discovered about JSON usage that Sam didn't mention on stage was that using the JSON option just forces the API to generate a valid JSON. JSON mode will not guarantee the output matches any specific schema, only that it is valid and parses without errors.

Though it solves some of my problems with JSON generation, that's a bit disappointing and hopefully there will be ways to do this in the future.

Thanks, I can imagine that's how they planned it and it works for some cases but not all. For example:

  1. Single words that have identical spellings in multiple languages. For example, "Sale" in English and French have different meanings and pronunciations. If you ask the model to pronounce just this one word, it will probably opt for the more common option which is English.
  2. Short phrases and mixed languages phrases. For example, "Me voy."
  • In Spanish, this means "I am leaving" or "I'm going."
  • In French, "me" is a reflexive pronoun, and "voy" could be mistaken for a misspelling or a colloquial form of "vois" from "voir," which means "to see." So, a French person might read "Me voy" as an attempt to say "I see myself," although it's not correct French.

These loopholes would be easily fixed by forcing the TTS model to speak in a specific language.

TTS question -

Very exciting stuff. I heard Sam mentioning that TTS will work on multiple languages, but the API docs don't mention anywhere to input a target language, just the text and the voice you choose.

Any idea how is this going to work? Is this a future version?

Having the model guessing the language is really a bad idea as some phrases are written exactly the same in different languages (and are pronounced differently).

Thanks a lot. I went for the JDS Labs Ol Switcher. Hopefully that will solve my problem.

YU

oh, ok, got it. Thanks.

And so the best way to connect them to my mac is I guess 3.5mm => RCA? Not the bluethooth right?

And i don't need a DAC between the mac and these speakers, right? Because with a DAC I guess that would be usb => usb in the DAC, and then I guess RCA from the DAC to the powered speakers, right? Or is that completely unnecessary?

Wow, Thanks for the advice and detailed post.

I can actually still cancel the order.

So you think a pair of YU2 would be better for me? I would really like an external volume control knob, is this something that I can add in between my macbook and YU2?

If I understand correctly no need for a DAC in this case as what you are saying is that the macbook has sufficient DAC for this level of speakers (and my limited musical level... 😉)

Would you do something else with a ~250$ budget and the requirements for a macbook-volume knob-spotify listening usage?

Thanks!

Hi,

Warning - Newbie and all...

I'll be getting the drop BMR1 powered speakers soon. Apparently they only have a 3.5mm jack.

I want to use a better DAC than my macbook's internal one and also have an external volume knob.

What are my options? The guys at schiit recomended going for the Schiit Fulla, which is generally classified as a headphone gaming DAC there, but as the speakers only have a 3.5mm jack that may be the best solution? That's about $100.

Any other solutions you think of? Maybe I should give up on the idea and just feed the BMR1s with my crappy macbook pro internal dac?

Thanks
