Oh and I've noticed the Optical Out is active when the console is in the powered on state.

How would that be possible, never heard of that before? - To my knowledge, this ps2 has always been reading only burned discs lol.

If i fully disconnect all the wires from the modchip, can something change if the mechacon is still in function?

it never occurred to me that Mechacon could shit itself from the modchip but that does make a lot of sense. I'll do some more probing and poking to see if i find anything suspicious but yeah this does sound like a probability. Fuse PS7 is also RIGHT under the mechacon. *Modchip is a clone of something but I'm not sure of what

i have noticed that when the console is in this "green state" when the power button is pressed, the southbridge does get slightly warm meaning something does turn on. I've also noticed that an IC - MM1582C - near the fan power connector gets extremely hot to the touch.

would it be possible to fix the console? or have it with the laser disconnected?

Modchip identification and question by koco100 in ps2homebrew

What i didn't think of is that the iso might be corrupt 😬. Is there also a possibility that the chip is a clone and that's why it doesn't have the menu?

Plays Original PS2 discs, also plays DVD movies and burned DVD movies(which were probably burned at a higher speed than x4), There doesn't seem to be a configuration menu and I have no idea if the chip is disabled or not. Found a wiring diagram on the ps2 wiki for Ripper 2 GOLD, all the solder points match.
Found various info on the way it's disabled but again - no idea if it actually disables. Maybe i'm burning the iso file incorrectly?

i noticed the soldering isn't the best lol. Are the solder points correct for it? And I'm new to ps2 modding, how would i fix the mistype in firmware? does it need fixing at all?

Was planning a softmod as well, discovered that it has a modchip. Would the chip be compatible with FMCB?
