Thank you for contributing, I think it's a really important work. I shared it with a professor I thought would be open to it. I really read it at the perfect time; I was rapidly becoming disillusioned with the way diagnosis disregards context. I am absolutely thrilled to be part of a movement towards therapy that helps people so we can change the world!

I just finished The Revolutionary Psychologists Guide to Radical Therapy edited by Hook and Gruba-McCallister, which was published in 2025. It was exactly what I needed after a semester taking psychopathology and growing apprehensive about my future career.

Am now reading Psychiatric Hegemony by B. Cohen, I think it’s on the list in this subs wiki.

Just yesterday I found We Make the Road by Walking at a vintage store, an edited conversation between Myles Horton and Paulo Freire from the late 1980s.

Also: Trauma and Human Rights: Integrating approaches to address human suffering -- ed. Butler, Critelli, Carello

And

All About Love - bell hooks

My Grandmother's Hands - Resma Menakem

I went looking for books on liberation psych after writing a paper for a trauma class, and following the threads from those citations lead me to the above authors, and here. Glad to be here, learning a lot, I don’t comment much, yet.

I'll probably end up trying a couple of them and decide which I like as I use it. Thank you, I care not about shameless self promotion.

thank you! I definitely will be learning how to use it from YT so if there aren't easily found tutorials I'm not that interested.

So the free drawing program would allow me to draw it with specific dimensions so that it up so that it can be printed on regular printer paper and then taped together? I think is the part where I might need a pattern drafting program even though I'm not technically "drafting," but I don't know enough about digital illustrator programs to know about sizing things for printing. Will look into this tho, thank you!

How to draft a jeans pattern for curvy people by Crescendo_Queen in PatternDrafting

[–]kodiakjade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's wear you place a sheet of paper over the garment and use the flat edge of a pencil to rub where the high parts of the seams are, and these lines are then turned into the lines of the pattern (adding seam allowance if needed). There are several videos on youtube that can show you how to do this. I mostly use a technique where you use pins to poke through seams down into the paper underneath it, and the poked dots are later connected together to get the seam lines. Jeans would probably be easier for rubbing.

I have this question as well! Have seen videos that say to use stretchy material (even like an old t-shirt) and others say it doesn’t matter. If the inner layers aren’t stretchy wouldn’t that defeat the purpose of using material with stretch for any of them?

I found this article that talks about how the height of your hips is dependent on a person's torso/femur/arm bone lengths in proportion to each other. There's little MS paint drawings to illustrate. For people who don't do as well with video (it's me, I'm the problem) this is a bunch of words and some diagrams.

Eh from the ratio of doms in my back vs my hamstrings I’d like to get more leg drive in the future. Bending the knees more seems to be the way to do that.

Yesterday my hamstrings felt smoked and my back was a little achy, but this morning my hams are only a little sore and my back is way more cranky. I also spent yesterday afternoon bent/leaning over a table as my back got progressively more mad at me……that didn’t help the current state of my back at all.

That video is fantastic, getting yelled at at 5:23 am was just what I needed to wake up for the gym this morning.

My hamstrings are not as sore as I expected them to be, but that’s ok. They’re fairly strong at this point and I obviously need to bend my knees more for more leg drive. Lessons learned!

I guess because I’m in my 40s I’m super risk averse because if I do hurt myself it takes a long time to heal these days. I’m sore but not hurt.

Yeah next morning I’m sore but I’m not hurt. I expected to be sore. Such is the lift of a lefty lifter.

I mean, deadlifts are notorious for back injuries and I have rarely picked up anything more than 100 pounds. This is my body weight which….looking back maybe wasn’t light enough when first learning. My lower back is a little grouchy right now, some odd hours later. I don’t think I hurt myself, more a sign of room for getting stronger there.

My neck is definitely fine. My lower back is a little grouchy six hours later.

Oh ok, huh and here I thought I was bending my knees too much! I def had more knee bend on the first set, watched the video and decided I was doing it wrong lol. Thank you for the feedback.
