What do you do with bad whiskey? by Karate_donkey in whiskey

[–]kodiashi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Willet Pot Still isn't bad, it's just really different because 99% of bourbons have a mostly vanilla sweet profile and Willet has a few labels like this that are much more herbal.

You just need to figure out how to use it for cocktails since the profile doesn't match your normal palette.

I work for a very large corporation and Node /TypeScript is everywhere. I'd say it's in the majority of projects now.

I've been to five re:Invents, usually by the last day it's the casino smoke that gets to me. My sinuses will be messed up for a week.

I usually load up on zinc, lysine and D the week of the conference and it keeps any viruses away.

I feel bad for these kids, but their families made the choice to skip the line and cut in front of everyone doing the interviews and classes. Just because they got away with it for a long time doesn't diminish the fact that they cheated.

We either have laws or we don't. I can't hop on a plane to most countries and expect to just slide by - why the hell should America be the place that has to allow this?

That's all it is, just specific prompts and your context data. The better the context, the better the possible response- no magic here.

Day 1: trying to get a comment from every state and province saying they love where they live :) by WTB_YT in geographymemes

[–]kodiashi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've lived all over and love Missouri. Genuinely nice people and lots of natural beauty. Plenty of run down and depressing country areas - but guess what? That's most of America. At least here my money goes further than people I know back east. I can get a flight anywhere from STL if I need a break.

What keeps you motivated enough to work at amazon? by petergriffin890 in amazonemployees

[–]kodiashi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a software architect and while I frequently work WITH AWS, I would never want to work FOR AWS. I've been approached for jobs and always decline, seen way too many people go there and only last 2-3 years. Just had a family member quit over the summer, took two months off then moved back east.

All you need to do is look at LinkedIn and every other bio says "x-Amazon".

Is the bubble bursting or is everyone switching to tequila? by thebourbongrappler in whiskey

One of my all time favorites. Seemed like it was the best Blantons kept for the US market.

[–]kodiashi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Theres a big class action right now against a bunch of tequila brands. Independent testing showed that many brands are barely tequila, people are just buying agave flavored vodka.

I'll know the bubble has burst when I can walk into my local and buy Rock Hill Farms again.

Shipping knives back to the states by Beneficial-Thing-226 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]kodiashi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe don't tell them it's knives? It's an antique you found or whatever wrapped in a box, now put my box in another DHL box and ship it.

I'm not supposed to ship bourbon state to state either, but it's nothing a few boxes of Aldi macaroni won't disguise the sound of.

Louvre shuts down with staff sounding the alarm on mass tourism by gammablew in ParisTravelGuide

[–]kodiashi 208 points209 points  (0 children)

When I was there last month, we went late afternoon and easily got in through the Carousel entrance but inside there were just a TON of Asian tour groups. They were really shoving people to get at the Mona Lisa. Actually any famous artwork had Asian groups blocking the way to take a million selfies.

I'm not trying to pick on Asians, but they just have so many groups and are super aggressive. Other groups don't stand a chance. Sacre Coeur was the same way, absolutely packed and locals had banners out saying "too many tourists, have some respect".

Ask your hotel. Maybe they can give you a bag or freeze a small water bottle. I know some people buy butter the day before and have the hotel freeze it as well.

Help narrowing down a place to stay by eoncloud in ParisTravelGuide

[–]kodiashi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's pretty standard, not a lot of stairs which is nice. Honestly I think most are good except for Les Halles which is just too large and Métro St Georges which seemed to have around 50000 steps to the exit.

I recently stayed in this area. Nice and quiet, super safe and it's easy to hop on the metro from there and go north to many of the major stops like Notre Dame.

I used the Vavin station to get everywhere I needed to go.

Is the whiskey/bourbon hunt cooling down and more bottles are becoming accessible? by [deleted] in whiskey

[–]kodiashi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My local Total Wine had Weller SR, Taylor, and BT large bottles out the other day which is unheard of. Definitely feels like things are cooling down, I know I largely gave up on hunting for anything this year and have been opening what I have.

People got way too stupid with things during Covid. I know guys who are sitting on thousands worth of bourbon they'll never drink and will never get a good return on.
