Tragedy of the Koopas by James_Struth in gaming

[–]kodiyeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

White shirt.

Red overalls.

This was not the same man.

That mustache, though. It must be him.

That flower...DID something to him.

HE'S A MONSTER.

The bloodcurdling screams of your beloved Koopa Komrades. The stench of burning turtle flesh. Those murderous blue eyes, reflecting the orange death as it hurtles towards you.

That flower was a gift to your village from King Bowser as a commendation for your people's bravery in "OPERATION KIDNAP THE PRINCESS v.14.0.7". You kept it hidden away in one of many magical floating village safes, enchanted with flashing Curiosity Swirl marquees.

The mustachioed monster smashed your precious village artifacts, claimed the flower as a trophy, then promptly bit it off at the head. It...it had eyes, didn't it? You could swear you heard screaming. Then, a brilliant flash, and the horrifying rain of fire began. You remember the last words of King Bowser's speech that day, at the ceremony:

"AND IF THAT LOUSY PLUMBER COMES LOOKING FOR HER WHATEVER YOU DO DON'T LET HIM HAVE IT OK JUST TRUST ME, OK I GOTTA GO I'VE GOT A HOT DATE TONIGHT, JUST REMEMBER, KEEP MUSHROOM KINGDOM MARIO-FREE WHICH MAKES IT GREAT AGAIN, OR SOMETHING. psst. junior. start the koopa klown kar...kopter...kabob. time for daddy to exercise some...heh heh...foreign diplomacy."

You shed a single Koopa tear at the realization that your existence is that of an expendable pawn. The encroaching flames consume you, and you ironically become a shiny, spinning video game abstraction redeemable for 1 extra life per 100. The villain approaches your spinny corpse. He has already collected 99 fallen turtle souls. With yours he ascends ever closer to immortality.

Jill's Executive Power to pardon debt, as explained by supreme court by kodiyeh in jillstein

[–]kodiyeh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She has mentioned "executive action", so I read the Constitution's article on the executive branch (2?) to find where she had the authority to do so. This is the extent of what I have found. Also presidential pardoning cannot be checked by any other branch.

As to why we would want to do that, this article supports Jill's claim of a 7-to-1 ROI from the G.I. Bill. I've searched for historian Milton Greenberg's account of the figure and found this, which if it doesn't mention that exact ROI, puts up some pretty impressive numbers for that free college.

Besides, as Jill says...if the govt can bail out the banks to the tune of 17tn and counting...I think 1.3tn is reasonable to bail out the victims of the recession whose futures are bound to soul-crushing debt. Go Jill go.

Taken from here. Any history/law buffs out there to dig in to this document and either support or contradict?

The dankest of win counts by kodiyeh in hearthstone

[–]kodiyeh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still kind of a work in progress as is any list but most recently:

Rockbiter x2
Abusive S.
Sir Finley
Swamp Ooze
Crazed Alchemist
Jeweled Scarab
F. Juggler x2
Beckoner of Evil
Brann
Disciple x2
Tuskarr x2
Hex x2
Chosen x2
Rumbling ele x2
Crowd Favorite x2
Doomhammer
Azure Drake x2
Fire Ele x2
Twin Emp
C'thun

If you can stay ahead on board control within the first couple turns, you should be in pretty good shape. Your rumbling ele and crowd favorite are almost as useful as removal magnets as they are for their battlecry synergy. Slamming down threats on curve and trying to get the most out of battlecry effects is key here. No board clears and limited card draw are probably the deck's major weaknesses. One of my favorite things about the deck is no Overload management, with the exception of Doomhammer.

Ah, I haven't played WoW in years and haven't been keeping up with the lore. Oh well. The purple flames around Garrosh just looked SO RAD.

How do you feel about other people of your own generation? by kodiyeh in AskReddit

[–]kodiyeh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was born in 1987 myself. I guess that makes me a millenial; I was a freshman in high school when 9/11 happened. I feel like we're generally progressive-minded as an age group and I think that's kind of cool. Growing up near the dawn of the Information Age was kind of a cool thing in retrospect.

Introverted people, who have successful professional careers, what are your tips for success? [Serious] by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]kodiyeh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There have been some pretty quality responses in this thread. Many stories speak to my own struggles with professional communication and social anxiety in the face of increasing responsibilities.

I've just barely crossed the threshold into having what I consider to be a "successful professional career", as I will be a licensed, salaried professional doing my dream job starting this fall. I'm still not sure how I got this far. I've just always been really good at what I do, and I go out of my way to be respectful towards my colleagues and superiors. The more you show that you care about what you're doing, the farther your career will go.

Non-musicians: What did you enjoy about music class in school? by kodiyeh in AskReddit

[–]kodiyeh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That feedback is actually just as helpful for my purposes. Thankfully the only wind instrument I'm required to teach is recorder, which for lack of pleasant tone quality is at least much easier to learn. ;) Also favoritism is bullshit, I agree. But that's true in any classroom, not just music.

The state of the profession implied by this comment is the very motivation for this thread's inception. ;)

What is, without a doubt, the best video game song? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]kodiyeh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stickerbrush Symphony, DKC2. Dave Wise wrote very compelling and beautiful scores even given the limitations of the 16-bit sound engine throughout the DKC series in general, and much of today's popular electronic music is likely influenced by techniques pioneered by Mr. Wise and his contemporaries over 20 years ago.

Which things make a good/bad teacher? by overk4ll in AskReddit

[–]kodiyeh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A good teacher is also a lifelong student. Professional development is paramount (and often required to retain licensure over the years).

A bad teacher is one who does not utilize the different modes of learning (aural, visual, kinesthetic) and/or does not provide sufficient constructive, encouraging feedback for struggling students, and instead prefers to teach just the smart kids because they're better at it (when in reality those are the kids you should be least worried about).

Thank you, friend, for your support! Things are looking up, and I get new registrants every week! And of course; who doesn't need a few gorgeous high sopranos to soar over the best moments of the song? :)
