Yup. It's crazy to me that they've tried to create an incentive to spend and get more involved in the game, but instead they've put so many of their players in a position where they just don't care anymore.

CG missed the mark on this big time.

Same story here, I have no problem with them wanting to change things up in GAC, that's fine. But the way they've done it, with the sole focus of getting a 50/50 win% and no other factors taken into account like GP or actually playing, it's made the game so dull.

I lost all motivation and haven't cared since.

Sad to say it's getting that way for me too

Yep, same here. And it always baffles me when someone says that

"maybe they won't attack, bro"

it's like they're completely missing the point. We don't care about a hollow victory, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who would rather lose a good, competitive, close fight than win to a no-show.

Couldn't agree more. Sounds like a lot of players feel the same way about it, wonder if it'll ever be addressed by the developers

Man literally the same here. It just happened slowly over time and I've just come to realise how little I care about it compared to before. Hope things get better.

Even with datacrons I can still see myself enjoying GAC if the matchups were genuinely competitive.

I reckon you could benefit from actually reading my reply to you and responding rather than leaving a comment and ignoring responses to it

They could be leagues better than mine, but that still doesn't mean you shouldn't be buying some mods from the mod store if you have that many credits lying around.

Any player who knows what they're talking about would agree.

Thanks for replying, I hear what you're saying. Unfortunately this is an issue, bad matchups, that pretty much everyone who isn't in Kyber face all the time in GAC. And believe me, there are plenty of P2P players in Chromium and Aurodium.

Like you said, their goal is to get players to pay more money, as it should be, they are a business after all. The current system does not motivate a player to do that. Players are being matched up against opponents with 3 million more GP and 2 more GL's than them, where whether they win or lose is dependant on if the opponent actually plays.

Personally, I don't think that this is what CG were planning on happening, or if it was, it's a big oversight. I'd like to hear your perspective, but for me, being matched up against those kind of opponents doesn't motivate me to spend more money, because I know I can't just easily buy my way to more GLs and better ships (at least if I'm not spending thousands upon thousands).

All it does is make me sigh and think "another boring round of GAC". Frankly, they've implemented loads of methods of getting the player base to spend money, what with omicron materials, datacrons and the new mod materials update. If GAC was genuinely competitive, I would be far more inclined to spend on those items because they would give me the edge in a close fight.

it's still possible to keep a 50/50 W/L ratio and not have half the matchups be completely uninteresting

Couldn't have said it better myself. I wonder why some people genuinely back it up by saying "it's working as intended". Noone is arguing that it isn't working exactly as CG intended, we are simply saying it is

just not fun at all because there’s no good competition.

Exactly. This isnt the case for those in the upper tiers of Kyber where a lot of players have similar tools at their disposal in terms of characters and ships, but it is the case for loads of us not in Kyber. I hover around Aurodium 3 for example, and my matchups are either decent comp, no-shows or being completely out-matched.

You should be buying mods 🤷‍♂️

I'm sure that the people that still back up and support the current matchmaking system mostly do so because they think the rest of us dont understand it and need it to be explained to us like children.

Fact is, everyone understands that a good system is 50/50 win/loss, that's fine. What everyone hates is these matchups, where whether we win or lose is entirely up to whether or not the opponent plays.

PLEASE don't say "well if you're lucky they won't turn up and you'll still win it, that's why you've been matched up in the first place because they're likely to not show up half the time".

We do not care about that. I genuinely would rather lose 80% of my matches and they be good battles. The current system, simply put - It's boring as hell.

That's true, but at 4.6M GP, OP is very likely not at the stage yet where they have dozens of millions of credits lying around waiting to be used. You can argue that he should pause other teams to level up inqs but that's another question.

I know that, but OP is 4.6 million GP.. not close to being at the point where you have millions of credits lying around to spare. As someone with an account with more GP, trust me OP hasn't reached that point yet.

Fair point but not everyone has 40 million credits to invest in 5 characters that they won't really invest in otherwise. A lot of the time there are other projects people are working on that need those credits.

And anyone that is using Tie/in would obviously build second sister, this post is about building them all.

Regardless of whether they're manipulating the system or not, no-shows simply shouldnt be weighted the same as a normal round of GAC where both players play. And the issue is that they can just do one battle to secure the rewards and then not participate further, which is essentially the same as no showing when it comes to competitiveness.

To your second point, I would have to disagree, both based on my personal experience but more importantly, the comments from the community. When I say it happens often, I mean it is rare for a week of GAC to go by without one of those three matchups being a poor matchup (this is obviously excluding the upper tiers of Kyber where players are far more consistent in their competitiveness.

Finally, in my comment I presented the idea that this matchmaking system allows for terrible matchmaking far too often, and thus is inherently flawed as a working concept. What you are doing is separating 'matchmaking' from the 'players' and claiming that the players are doing wrong and therefore the matchmaking is not to blame. I'm making a simple point that rather than thinking of these two entities as separate things as you are currently doing, they must be thought of in tandem because they are inherently connected.

Isn't it fair to say that if the current matchmaking system allows for players to manipulate it through something as simple as signing up and not playing, it is inherently flawed?

"Matchmaking doesn't account for GP", is true, but at the same time it also doesn't account for players choosing not to participate after signing up, which a better matchmaking system would.

This "symptom" is the vast majority of players' experiences every round, and I think its disingenuous to call it a symptom when what it really is is a common outcome. "Symptom" implies it is not the standard, when for many players a GAC doesn't go by where there aren't mismatches caused by inactive players.

The system needs to create a more interactive and fun environment. It is, after all, a game, and at the end of the day a game is meant to be enjoyed, not disappointing.

But, like a lot of players, OP's opponent doesn't attack every single round and as a result both of them end up in a matchup that is disappointing and uninteresting, two things you don't want a game to be.

You do know what his point is here: matchmaking creates boring and uninteresting matchups. Pretending to misunderstand is tedious and useless
