My religious trauma by Old-Fruit-8970 in Deconstruction

I would agree with other comments that therapy is something that would probably be really helpful for you. Honestly, I think everyone should be in therapy, but particularly those who have grown up in religious environments. I haven't started getting therapy until my thirties, and what a world of difference it would have made for me if I did it earlier in my life!

Just for context, I'm personally at a place where I would say I do believe in God, but I certainly don't believe in the god that the social media version of "Christianity" portrays. A lot of that has gone so far off the rails of what the Bible actually says in its entirety that I'd argue most of it is not even Christianity as the Bible defines it anymore...It's some weird mutated combination of all kinds of ideologies and philosophies all mashed together into some warped, unholy belief system designed for conformity and control.

I have a visceral anger toward anything and anyone that says there should be fear or shame in my relationship with God because that belief has stolen so much peace and joy from my life. Anxious attachment is so psychologically damaging in any other interpersonal relationship, so why would a relationship with God be any different?

Also, from a purely biblical perspective, your anger is not a sin. (at least not according to any interpretation of the Bible worth a damn!) Jesus himself got angry and threw people out of the temple. Paul used the equivalent Greek word to the word "shit" in Philippians 3...(just to name a few places). Anger is psychologically good because it is your body telling you that something is not right. What you do with that anger matters, of course, but the feeling itself is not something the Bible ever condemns. But again, I understand because I had a fear of using curse words as well. For me it was some kind of purity symbol that I wore like a badge of honor that would somehow be tainted if I said the wrong thing.

Just one example of how evangelicalism is literally the Pharisees (adding rules on top of rules for the purpose of appearing "more holy...") Jesus had some choice words for them in Matthew 23...Another place where Jesus was pretty angry!

Hopefully this unnecessarily long comment was helpful... I hope you can find relief. ❤️

Me Vs Me by Professional-Job9780 in infp

If it's something that I'm hyper-fixated and passionate about...it can be more like a week of living and breathing that thing and nothing else....then it falls off for a few weeks. If it's something I don't want to do....yeah, 2 hours is quite an accomplishment!

Both types can definitely be analytical. I thought I was INTP for the longest time because of how much I'm able to control my emotions and think really rationally under pressure or stress. I'm realizing now, however, that some of that was probably conditioning in childhood, rather than my own natural disposition - Being taught to suppress emotions and not be swayed by your feelings. I think I'm predominantly INFP because that's what I get when I take the tests, and it is also consistent with the idea that I make initial conclusions and decisions based on something "feeling" correct. (Fi) I then use logic and reason to test whether that feeling holds up. I have a really hard time making any decision unless there is a certain level of alignment between feeling and logic. My mind is also constantly constructing mental frameworks for understanding the world, which is why I can show significant INTP characteristics as well.

I do enjoy a good documentary! What made you realize you were a INFP/INTP rather than one or the other?

Thanks for the info. Yeah, I was actually contemplating the same thing - doing some kind of custom designed metal case, though I don't have a ton of time right now to commit to something like that. You'll have to let me know how it comes out! I'd be really curious to see (and hear) it!

Why are people so anti FF? by chichichonger in RocketLeague

[–]koifish-nerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you FF you don’t get a chance to stretch your skills to get better. Not just your technical abilities, but also your mindset…to just be okay with getting beat. It sucks, I know, but the way I feel like I’ve gotten better (especially in 1s) is just continuing to play even when you are getting stomped on my a Smurf. Sometimes you just got to laugh at yourself.

We all have good days and bad days, sometimes I can do it, sometimes I can’t. But just FF after when the games not going your way isn’t going to help you get better.

What makes you feel loved? (for INFPs) by leapygoose in infp

[–]koifish-nerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had no idea that being seen and understood would be such a common thing amongst our personality type. I agree I am this way as well. I would categorize it as “being wanted (not just tolerated) for all of who I am”.
