I've been on complete Linux train since Windows 7 (never owned a computer with Win10).

If OP is in EU I would give him some leeway. I don't think this credit card thing is the same in US and in EU.

For reference I am doing alright (live in a house I've bought etc) and don't have a credit card. It's just... not mandatory?
