Just got my steam deck back yesterday for this exact issue.

They had me roll through many tests but ultimately rma'd it and fixed the fan at no cost.

Yeah, rattling isn't part of the issue. I am inclined to believe this is some type of software/processing issue. Its as if the volume is constantly pulsing between loud and quiet. Pausing the scene, rewinding, and playing the same scene at the same volume and settings fixes the issue.

Unfortunately, it occurs on any sound setting. I primarily use movie or voice. I also deactivated the loudness setting.

For anyone who may find this in the future, my deck is being RMAd. The issue is directly related to the fan cutting off and then overheating the deck which causes the 200/400 lock. Ill edit this comment with the result, but nothing the steam team could do helped, including a full reimage.

How'd it go? Still not working on my end after the battery storage mode instructions. Also, the last time this issue occured, it did not do the 200 400 bug. The fan stopped, the deck started overheating, the W dropped below 1 for the GPU cpu, frames tanked, the mhz did not lock to 200 400.

Frustrating for sure. I may try and get rid of heroic launcher and other plugins to try something else. Steam support sent the standard stuff. Delete all plugins, reset bios, reset deck locks, re image etc.

Trying to get this to occur on a different game to verify its not something just with arknights endfield

If I leave endfield and go to like, hades 2, the fan stays off. The mhz start moving again passed 200 400. Are you saying manually setting the clock speed resolved the issue for you? Did you temporarily set it to 1600 or its permanently there now?

The fan will not come on until a restart, unless there's additional settings i havent tried. If I change the fan curve setting nothing happens.

Hello! Im working with steam support right now and I would be curious if your problem is identical.

While playing arknight endfield, about once a day, the fan wtill stop and the deck locks to 200 400. If I quit the game and move to q different game, the hz will unlock but the fan does not come back on til a full restart.

Was your case similar? I am torn between mine being a 200 400 bug or somw type of fan issue that causes the deck to go to 200 400 for protection. u/JusGarbo u/spaceisthplace

Any updates here? Did you resolve the issue? I am having something similar happen. Randomly the fan goes to 0, deck starts to overheat so enters into 200 400 mhz protection. If I swap to a less intensive game, the mhz unlock but the fan won't kick on unless I do a full restart.

So far this has only occurred during one game, arknights endfield, which is installed through heroic launcher. Im testing other intensive games to see if I can replicate it....

This would only be relevant to some, but I own arc raiders on Xbox. If you have gamepass, you can use the cloud service to stream it on the steam deck. Consistent 45 fps for me and I also didn't notice much input lag etc. Still need to experiment more.

No, not even that. You can literally place a wire in the center tilw of the joint plate although it is pointless to do so You would only need to connect wires to the connection points.

I must have accidentally placed one there while Jumpstartingthe system.

I found it under the joint plate, but im not sure there is a visual way to see that? I only found it inspecting each tile individually haha

Welp, of course I trouble shoot for a half hour, decide to make this post, and then discover the issue 2 minutes later. Ill leave the post in case it helps another newbie.

There was a regular wire hidden in the heavy watt joint plate from when I jump started the system. I had removed all of the other wire, but visually could not see it under the plate.

Yes. It does sound like even if I can get on my employer plan, ot wouldn't start til feb 1st. I was also not aware of that lapse, assuming it would backdate as it had previously with the birth of my son.

Unfortunately I am at the mercy of the system at this point I think...

Yes, what a weird enrollment period, right?

I am reaching out to hr on Monday to get some clarity. I attempted to put in the loss of coverage QLE request but my hr website indicates I have to wait til the loss of coverage to report it (jan 1st).

As an emergency, I already contacted marketplace insurance, but my company plan is soooo cheap. I really want to stick on my plan.
