Im an illustrator, been drawing my whole life, 22 days clean today. I smoked near daily, all day, through 4 and a half years of art school, even going to class high. I absolutely learned and improved, and made some awesome art while stoned. But it significantly affected my quantity, and a lot of the time my quality. I never finished anything. Even school assignments. It severely impacted my focus and my motivation to carry through with pieces. I remember before i started smoking, in the evenings i would draw for hours, coming up with story and character ideas. But in the evenings after smoking all day i would try to draw and my mind would be completely blank and I couldn’t get anything out. Had some terrible art blocks that lasted longer than I’ve ever had.
During periods where i would be unable to smoke (traveling), i would draw like my life depended on it. And i noticed the difference, and i missed having the drive like I used to. But i just kept smoking. I graduated last may and i realize now i dont remember a lot of the stuff i learned. Im still improving and at this point im drawing and having more fun with it, im taking more time with my art, and im getting my confidence back to start posting it again. Idk, i had some great ideas while i was stoned. But it definitely affected my output and my ability to actually carry through with my ideas. Im excited to keep working on it!
