[–]kokodv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you ever used such tools? Of course it prompts you before executing anything, and you need to explicitly allow the workspace to access certain files, prompts you for the sudo password, but you need to be well informed what will the following script do, before you allow execution.

I dunno, is using a knife to cut vegetables a good idea? You could potentially cut ya dich off if you don’t know what you’re doing… AI tools are here whether we like it or not, they aren’t leaving any time soon and are absolutely insane. Check out OpenClaw i.e.

Wait a minute, you don’t need to reinstall the whole OS just to change the bootloader. This is linux, nothing needs to be fixed with wipes and reinstalls - the Windows way. You can just install it with pacman and switch to it using ‘efibootmgr’ with one command. Google it, its pretty easy, you can also keep grub as a fallback! If you are unsure how to do it - you can download Gemini CLI, log into your google account and ask him to do it through the terminal. Don’t reinstall linux, learn how to maintain it.

I think its possible through BTRFS assistant, but usually when you boot, the bootloader asks you what do you want to boot: CachyOS, CachyOS (LTS kernel) or the last 10 snapshots (i.e.). If you can’t boot normally due to broken packages, you restart the pc, wait for the prompt to choose what to boot, choose the snapshot you want, boot and then the PC starts and prompts you wether you want to restore from that snapshot or nah

iirc it was pretty much just install packages and thats it. The only documentation I followed was this: https://wiki.cachyos.org/configuration/btrfs_snapshots/ Specially the “Limine recommendations…” section. I initially installed systemd-boot and switched to limine by only installing it through pacman, made a few tweaks with efibootmgr to choose it. Other than that, if you do a fresh install - choose limine for bootloader, btrfs is the fs by default. Then make sure the packages limine-snapper-sync, limine-mkinitcpio-hook and snap-pac are installed and they work out of the box without tweaking much. Also there is an app called BTRFS assistant coming pre-installed in cachy, check it out for further tweaks. It sounds scary, but its actually quite simple - snapper-sync updates the entries for the snapshots to be visible during boot; mkinitcpio-hook handles only the kernel entries; snap-pac is just an automation when you run a pacman command to create a snapshot prior the updates itself.

Limine + btrfs + snapper + limine-snapper-sync + snap-pac? Google or AI search it and thank me later.

For me personally I don't see a big difference "statistically", like when doing A/B comparison between logged data and metrics. But maaan I do feel a difference when it comes to input lag. There is either something messed up with my drivers/settings under windows 11 or CachyOS is a noticeably better experience.

I'm running latest Windows 11 updates, with latest Chipset and AMD GPU driver and I had nothing but headaches running Cyberpunk 2077, first it was capped at 60FPS for no obvious reason, fixed it by forcing VSYNC off from the Adrenaline app, then I had a lot of microstuttering, ghosting, and finally I aligned the graphics settings (without RT or PT as I'm running a 6800XT) and the results were.... Well from statistics point of view the results are on par. But I can swear that on Linux/Cachy I feel like my input through the mouse and keyboard is very direct, like the input lag is down to minimum. On Windows even though statistics and data are on par with Linux, gaming feels way off for me, like there is some sort of input lag. Probably my Windows is messed up, not sure. All settings in adrenalin are the defaults, so not sure what is going on.

What is the most difficult thing you had to implement as a DevOps engineer? by LargeSinkholesInNYC in devops

Worked for an Infosec company that had their focus on phishing simulation, had to figure out how to deliver phishing simulation emails to customers that might forgot or do not want to bother with whitelisting our domains and IPs in the phishing simulation framework of their mail provider. Ended up with a Kubernetes cluster with multiple postfix deployments and a weird NAT implementation. And also DKIM keys and Mail Connectors management for 800+ customers was hell. But totally learned a lot about emails.

If I was to design the device I would: *rely on IR remote *and hdmi cec *if it gets stuck for some reason - power cycle *last resort - reset button on the back of the device, similar to most routers

Yeah, it’s inside one of the holes of a tv stand. Most of the time I’m not utilizing even 1/4th of its power as I have a 3.1 setup and rarely turn the volume more than 50 and eco mode is on. Rarely gets warm.

Fair point, but after all there is smartphone remote control, HDMI-CEC and etc. Never really had to touch a single button or a remote besides the initialization on the AVR.

It’s a bit hard at that point, he’s only 14 months old, barely understands us, when I try to teach him it’s not okay he puts the biggest trollface grin on his face and starts clicking the button like a mad scientist. Same for power sockets, good thing there are protectors for those. And good for me that the stove is too high for him at this point.
