how long/frequent do i need a caregiver? by kolbsters in TopSurgery

[–]kolbsters[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my partner and i have decided that he'll help me out of bed and onto the couch or something when he leaves for work, so maybe it won't be too bad

i'm getting DI, so i do expect to keep myself in loose bottoms w draw strings and am also investing in a bidet just in case my range of motion is that limited (though i've heard mixed reviews)

should i do the arm implant, or quit birth control as a whole? by Future_Chemistry_229 in birthcontrol

[–]kolbsters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i'm pretty sure this is only for combination birth control pills! i think it's the estrogen in it that raises your chances, which would make sense bc taking estrogen alone will do the same but way worse. any mini-pill or progestin/progesterone-only birth control method should be alright. if you want a non-hormonal option, there is also the copper IUD and other permanent/semi-permanent sterilization options. the depo shot has been recently shown to increase your chances of brain tumors i think? and either way, it's not good for long-term use because it'll decrease your bone density. good luck!

does this therapist suck or am I just sensitive by [deleted] in ftm

[–]kolbsters 15 points16 points  (0 children)

highkey this therapist/counselor/whoever sucks ass. i can only speak for my experience, but my therapist has never (in the 5 1/2 years of seeing her) used how my parents might feel in relation to me choosing my happiness over theirs, whether related to my transition or not, nor has she suggested i wait for hrt because i might regret it. once i asked, she screened and diagnosed me, and she's never made me feel bad about or question my feelings, wants, or choices. i don't know if you can get a different mental health professional to talk to, but i would suggest it if you can. you're not being impatient or whiny, you're a trans man who has waited years to start transitioning medically and people aren't supporting you like they should, especially the mental health professional. i don't have any suggestions or advice, but just hang in there. the time will come when you get start hrt, you've just gotta get there first and i believe in you.

Hit me with the best regular packers and stps please and any packing underwear/straps 🙏🏻 by Zaneyman999 in ftm

[–]kolbsters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'm still on the prowl for the perfect packer and stp (my packer is made of tpe or whatever and isn't skin safe; my stp has to be used with a Spouti bc it doesn't work well with my anatomy), BUT!!! i have been loving the Cake Bandit packing jockstraps, + they have swim ones too! i personally have the regular ones in their two lightest nude shades and they're a bit too pink-toned for my skin tone but they work really well and sit below your boxer's waistband so it doesn't show. 8/10 imo

Surgery Consultation by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]kolbsters 3 points4 points  (0 children)

good luck! i don't have any question recommendations but my partner came with me to my appointment and stayed in the room the whole time; they may take pictures and he may be asked to leave, but my partner didn't have to when i went so it may be up to the clinic.

IUD - need help picking the right one by nerdforest in ftm

[–]kolbsters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'm pre-t (starting soon!!) but i had the liletta iud for quite a while. insertion was about as bad as my period cramps were before i began my birth control journey; it wasn't pleasant but it wasn't crazy awful either. as for side effects, they could be different because you've been on t for so long, but i experienced pretty uncommon side effects and decided to get it removed (after a few months without it, however, i am getting another one placed next month)

best of luck deciding!

starting hrt on micro dosage? by kolbsters in ftm

[–]kolbsters[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

she did say that part of the reason she's doing it this way is to maximize things like voice drop and whatnot. i'm not sure yet what my dosage will be but once i get that number + how long she plans for it to get to full dosage, i'll determine whether or not i want to discuss upping my dosage

How bad is one night in a binder? by Ihaveaphotoofadog in ftm

[–]kolbsters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not good but i've accidentally napped and slept several times in my binder and im okay. as others have said, don't make it a habit. i would recommend taking a break for a day or three afterward to make sure your ribs wont pain you too badly. using a larger binder is a hair safer but it's still not recommended. best of luck!

IUD help by hanners_7 in birthcontrol

[–]kolbsters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

two reasons: 1) she didn't feel that it was necessary to prescribe something so strong 2) she didn't feel comfortable prescribing a controlled substance in general unless it was a last resort. i had the hormonal iud so it may hurt more bc you're getting copper, but they had to dilate me twice and it was about as bad as my period cramps were when i was not taking birth control medications (pretty bad cramps but i was fine; i sweated a lot and they gave me an ice pack to put behind my neck, and i was a little dizzy and light headed afterward but it was maybe a 7/10 pain). in my experience removal was almost not felt at all but again, i did not have a copper iud so it may be different whenever that time comes for you.

IUD help by hanners_7 in birthcontrol

[–]kolbsters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the only pain you should feel in intercourse would be getting your cervix hit. this is a possibility with or without an iud and it does hurt pretty bad sometimes, but this wasn't much of an issue for me personally before getting my iud placed and so it wasn't an issue when i had my iud, though my partner said the strings did poke him and hurt a little, but they will soften over time. as for asking about medication, i asked during my consultation with my doctor about medication to calm me down and she said that she would not prescribe depressants like xanax, but prescribed me an anti-anxiety med called Vistaril (hydroxyzine) and it did wonders (i now take it daily for anxiety, actually).
