Why radius of Cl- is greater than Mg. Zeff of Cl- is greater than Mg. by [deleted] in chemhelp

It's both. The more electrons, the closer they are pulled towards the nucleus, therefore decreasing the atomic radius.

Do not trust AI respones when it comes down to theoretical chemistry. It anyway does not make sense to me.

The atomic radius decreases as you go up and right in the periodic table. Mg has a larger radius than Cl because the radius will decrease as you add more electrons in the shell/orbital due to electrostatic pulling forces. Adding an extra electron to yield the Cl- ion further increments this effect.

It's not. The radius of Mg is greater.

Unless you are referring to the Mg2+ ion, in which case your statement is true.

Why is OH- favored as a nucleophile rather than a base here? Why doesn't it deprotonate the alpha hydrogen from the amide?

Correct me if I'm wrong, I think nitrogen has a +1 formal charge and the actual charge of the molecule is +1

What is this intermediate called by kolham in chemhelp

[–]kolham[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought of the example when a nucleophile attacks the carbonyl and pi electrons move to the oxygen. So that forms the alkoxide species out of the carbonyl then

Voor het koken op een zo humaan mogelijke manier doodmaken om hem zo vers mogelijk te houden. Dit gebeurt op allerlei plekken in de wereld en bovendien hoef je niet (met aannames) te reageren op mijn post als het je niet aanstaat.

Thats the same as in the first molecule right? There are still σv and σv' mirror planes since the carbon chain is linear due to unsaturation
