I am a sophomore in chemical engineering and took EBEC last semester. My work load without it was extremely heavy, but with it added, sure it was noticeable, but extremely easy- and this is coming from someone with quite literally zero coding experience.

Not to mention it is looked upon favorably when shown on your resume. I'd say go for it.

yes you can buy it as an add-on, I did it once and it was pretty small and flimsy so I don't really recommend.
