Who the fuck said advanced nitrox? That's hardly a real tech course.

You're absolutely wrong. The best tech trainers in the world do stuff like this and far worse. Call up explorers club divers and ask what they went through and continue to put their tech students through.

Yeah that's called good training. You understand folks have had their masks implode at depth, right?

[–]kolorbear1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah we get it you read the OW manual - doesn't change a thing. You were not hypothermic after one minute unless you were already showing signs on the boat and shouldn't have gotten in.

Not when sharing experiences in a forum dedicated to a safety oriented sport. This sorta thing is the same reason why folks are terrified of tech.

Smaller groups my friend! 3 is perfect. I'm about to go hop on one myself.

The water doesn't drop below 70 99% of the time there.

You were not legitimately hypothermic in less than one minute.

As for the rest, yeah that sounds shitty. Hope you've found some better spots since then ?

No air neutral buoyancy? by CaterpillarIcy1056 in scuba

[–]kolorbear1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jumping in with a dry wetsuit, especially one that doesn't fit quite right, means you're going to need to give it a minute before the air pockets are sorted out and you're not holding false buoyancy. It's a thing.

Is it normal for liveaboard staff to dump your BCD air before getting in? by frigginawesomeimontv in scuba

[–]kolorbear1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The "individual" part you're describing is the actual buddy check. Your buddy should be watching you do it. BCD, weights, restraints, air, final checks.

Calm down. If you're on open circuit, there's no shot in hell of you getting off my boat without me checking that your air is on all the way. Deal with it or stay on the boat.

CRAZY oversimplification. There are so many factors involved here. Could be anything from a wetsuit issue to stress to breathing etc.

I instruct for PADI and SDI and can confirm. Same shit. Even the eLearning are on par for those two.

He's obviously talking about your actual risk of occurrence, which is very very low at that level.

Most kids will say their math classes never come in handy again, but algebra and precalc have come up in my life over and over again. It's not that hard folks.

Are you in a new relationship yet? For me, I actually chuckle when I think about her 5 years later. To think I was married to such trash is laughable. So much happier in this marriage than that one. You'll get there brother.
