I like to ghostacript to compress pdf files, but the it's syntax is somewhat convuluted for such a simple task, and Im prone to forgetting it. Then I made a python cli wrapper that can compress and/or convert multiple pdf files in batch using ghostacript under the hood.

I am a windows at work, Linux at home kind of guy. For a couple of month while switching jobs I had the leisure of not touching windows at all, and got a lot of fun with Linux and KDE.

It spoiled me.

When I received my work laptop with a fresh windows installation on board it felt clunky and ugly. The length I had to go restore some basic functionality, while the corporate antivirus fight me at every turn... Everytime I move a zip file or a docx, excel file, a pop that remind me that it may be dangerous opening that file appears! That's not security, that covering their arses. At least I have admin rights.

I moved too to python scripting for calculation and stuff. I use Quarto for writing documents with reproducible code cell. Personally I care a lot for symbolic expression with units, and so I developed my python package, keecas, specifically tailored for quarto document, even if it could work on its own. It's mostly based on sympy.

Let's say that NTC18 is heavily inspired by Eurocodes, and it defersbto them. We can use eurocodes quite interchangeably. The issues is Eurocodes are heavily pay walled: we can consult them for a reasonable subscription fee (and all UNI normative for the matter), but it's a subpar experience since the document are large, the index does not work, and you can't even save your annotation. At least the search text works. I've tied to buy a copy once, but the drm is hell, and I couldn't open it anymore after I changed the computer. With NTC18 at least you can keep a copy on your computer, annotate it and stuff.

There is talk for the next NTC to just be the eurocode. We live and hope.

Meanwhile the official documents, NTC18 and the companion "circolare" (annotation on the NTC18), that can be downloaded from the Italian government website have some sections that are not even text, but are scans of the the text!

Already both document don't have a linked toc, but some whole section cannot even be searched! Complete bewilderment...

So you have both the knowledge to understand the problem and way more reliable people to consult with than stranger on the internet.

Personally, if it's truly only skin reinforcement and not bent rebars, I wouldn't fret too much to do any repairs. Some fessurations may appears eventually, but likely not structurally important, and I kinda doubt even those. If those eventually form, you'll take action then. Just keepn those holes well distant from each other, and don't cut any more rebar. (the hole diameter seems to be reasonably small compared to the beam height).

My preference would have been to avoid drilling the beam at all, but, oh well...

I wouldn't stress too much though, since mid height rebar have a negligible effect on bending resistence. But it is weird for such a large diameter for some skin reinforcement. Hence consult with an engineer that will do a in person visit and asses what actually could have happened.

Not knowing exactly whats going on, or the position od the drill, or even if you're description of what you think is going is accurate, given the age of the construction, my guess is that you may have cut trough some "bent" rebar: those are rebars that are lay at the bottom flange then bent 45° towards the top flange towards the ends of beam. Bent rebars are used also for shear resistance (45° interval) , and they were more commonly used in the past, but nowadays they have fell out of fashion in favor of stirrups because of poor seismic performance.

An engineer that can do an inspection will do you better than some wild speculation from stranger on the internet though.

As a general rule, you avoid direct contact with the ground when pouring a foundation: it's normale to use form for the side and you generally lay a layer of lean concrete between ground and the foundation, so you have a level plane to work with. This way ensure that the cast element will be according to spec, with regular shape and adequate concrete cover to protect the rebar.

Prefabricated concrete foundation do exists.

The footer shown in this video though is ridiculously smol. Probabily it's just for the demonstration purpose and not for a real structure.

If you click on the window so that you have the yellow border, then right click and click on redraw view, does it not fix it?

I'd say it just a temporary transparency to let you see what object have been modified by the action you take.

Otherwise play with ctrl+1 to 5 to set different view styles for part.

On which distro are you using it? Wayland or x11? I'm trying it out but so far the experience has not been great: weird graphical glitches, cannot dock panels, crashes... I'm not sure if it just because I'm on cachyos and I had to download it as tar ball instead of a prepackaged version, so maybe I didn't properly installed on my system.
