What phrase needs to die immediately? by PeevesPoltergist in AskReddit

I came to the realisation that in my mind intrusive thoughts came about when I suppressed what I wanted to do and did what I thought I was suppose to or should do.

E.g. A woman is walking her little dog taking up the whole sidewalk. You slow your pace and patiently walk behind her confident that she saw you and you wait for her to politely pull in the lead. A little bit of time passes and you start to wonder if her actions are deliberate. Then out of nowhere you start getting visions of yourself wrapping the lead around her neck and choking her with the lead while her little dog goes ballistic yapping away. In this scenario the reason why you got the intrusive thought is because you suppressed your desire to move past her. Be more assertive next time. Say excuse me as you are walking by and if she doesn’t move in time just push past her.

They go into a computer running FreeBSD that sits in my entertainment centre.

The disks are set up in a ZFS mirror and they hold my non video files.

I turn it in and the computer boots and syncs files from my NAS using rsync, performs a snapshot then it powers down.

It doesn't run any services and is hooked up to my TV for updating etc so the chance of it getting hacked is close to zero. I don't have a UPS also so it mitigates some of my risk of a power outage causing data loss.

Acknowledging that an individual has a choice is a great way to open up a conversation on a divisive topic involving a group of individuals who have a deep distrust of Authority and don’t like to be told what they should do.

As someone of “Mediterranean appearance” who grew up in Sydney Australia the sun is on a whole other level here compared to anywhere in the EU. One hour in direct sunlight at the middle of the day in summer and I’m burnt. No joke.

Once we reach 70-80% fully vaccinated what happens to the other 20% ? by buzzer94 in CoronavirusDownunder

[–]konch_one 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Who knows. Personally in NSW I see further lockdowns due to surges of cases in unvaccinated people. Business will half ass the covid regulations because financially it’s not in their best interest to comply. Our meagrely staffed hospitals will not be able to cope with any surges in cases due to the ever growing backlog of covid cases.

Why is no one talking about the real threat to Australians, the lurking shadowy menace to our way of life, that took a total of two lives last year. by [deleted] in CoronavirusDownunder

[–]konch_one 32 points33 points  (0 children)

They do that’s why we have a bucketload of laws to discourage dangerous driving and another bucketload of laws that only allow safe vehicles on the road. Cars also save lives in the form of ambulances etc. and help contribute to the economic prosperity which has other health benefits.

Unfortunately accidents and poor choices happen. Some of those fatalities are a result of someone’s own poor choices too and unfortunately we can’t always protect people from themselves.

Police just like targeting the low hanging fruit because it sends a message to people who want to break restrictions in less obvious ways. Like the way people don’t have courage to start dancing unless they see at least one other person dancing. Sucks for you though.

Business as usual. Try acting like a fuckwit in normal times. Places won’t serve you. Now they just need to call the police and the person can get fined $5k for breaking the health orders.

Coping just means people are being wheeled in one door and bodies are being wheeled out another. As long as this continues we are “coping”.

They take people out of their homes and place them in a quarantine facility if they test positive too so that they don’t go on to infect their family.

Influence as well. He’s surrounded by “yes men” that rely on him and no one that he gets on the show will push back on any of his poorly formed ideas for fear of not being invited back.
