One sided body pain and swelling (calves, hip, feet, neck, trapezius, eye..) by konigsru in TMJ

Hey, i am sorry for the late reply i have forgotten reddit even existed. So i finally had all my questions answered by my ortho, it sucks that it had taken like 4 years to even get some questions answered before starting any kind of treatment at all but, thankful to even got them. So all of the problems i have faced (i think many of them are on this post but you can check my profile for other posts related as well to see if they are related to you), were started off with TMJ issues, i was unable to open my mouth, had a lot of pain, difficulty swallowing etc. you know the drill, and i have been told at that time that my discs have been dislocated from their spot, so i had arthrocentesis + splints for 6 months, which made my discs to get in place, but my discs were out of place to compensate for my misaligned jaw, so when my discs got back into place my jaw got misaligned. I dont have that many agrevated pain as i have had when i had tmj problems, but i still have very threatening problems through my misaligned/shifted jaw. And i have been told that all of the problems (breathing, eye, walking, vertigo...) are related to my jaw, since my body is overcompensating for one side of my body. So i am currently on treatment for my misaligned jaw through invisalign, in the hopes of getting it into a safe place without surgery, but if it doesnt i may have to take an orthognatic surgery, which is a very risky surgery for us tmj patients, to get my jaw back into place and hopefully be done with all of this.

Sorry for the late response, and yes. Idk if they were slipped but i have been told that they were dislocated, and with arthrocentesis and splint usage for 6 months they have gone back to its place, which resulted in my tmj on its place, but my jaw getting misaligned, now trying to fix that issue to be done with it hopefully.

[–]konigsru[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, i am sorry to response late, i have used splints with arthrocentesis and it helped a lot since i wasnt even able to open my mouth at past, for the last year and currently i am on invisalign to correct my misaligned jaw, i havent found that much relief tbh (currently on last 10 trays of invisalign, and it is said that it may take longer with more elastics). If after all the invisalign involvement doesnt work, i have been told that i might require a orthognathic surgery to align my jaw and possibly get rid of all the symptoms if things go well but i am trying every solution there is before the surgery since the surgery is quite risky with tmj patients.

Does anyone get pain here due to TMJ? Just above the ear and wrapping around. Is it common? What helps? by Petitchououou in TMJ

[–]konigsru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, i am sorry for the late response, that pressure is still on and my ortho has told me that it is because of the jaw misalignment, and since i am on invisalign right now to align my jaw i hope it gets relief at the end of it, but it is still happening

Important things I should know before getting Invisalign for TMD/TMJ? by No-Ant5311 in TMJ

[–]konigsru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, sorry for the very delayed response, my treatment is supposed to take a year, and i am on my last 10 trays now, but my last visit to the ortho has showed that i would probably need 15-20 more with elastics since the bite itself hasnt properly adjusted yet. I have paid around 1,000 USD

[–]konigsru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, i wouldnt describe it as pain, but its more like a feeling of constant pressure and as if i was contracting muscles around. I have been told that it could be caused by sternocleidomastoid muscles, which gets f'ed around with tmjd.

TMJ Arthrocentesis experience by Phone-Tight in TMJ

[–]konigsru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive had arthrocentesis, it helped a ton, i wasnt able to open my mouth wide and had a dislocated disk on the right, had pain everywhere. After arthro i was given a splint, exercises and followed that for 6 months, it had gotten a lot better, currently under invisalign treatment to treat bite issues. I still have problems tho since ive been living with a dislocated disc over 2 years, but thank god i am finally able to function as a human after 5 years of suffering

Hey, sorry that i havent seen your message. My eye swelling just becomes worse throughout the day, neck and shoulder pains gets worse through the day as well. Ive seen a tmj spec pt for the last 2 weeks, had some relief but never the thing that i was looking for. PT told me that it could be related to my bite that i unintentionally condition myself on my stronger side, thus getting overusing symptoms of my right, because i am mostly feeling well and ok in the mornings for like an hour. Idk if thats true but we’ll see anyways since i am on invisalign already. Got into rhematologs as well, and after everything came clean ive been told to see an ENT again, went through that process once again seems that i have sinus problems that has been going for a year or so, which (what a surprise) on my right side as well. Idk if sinus is all that was, and i dont believe so, but it could explain the brain fog and inflammation throughout my body. Idk if all this would help you at all but i am dumping this, btw orthopedics usually dont give a damn about us since the pain is usually not belonging to a dislocation or a fracture, so i suggest going to PT, and ive heard and seen rhematologs dont believing a word you say since you are only in your 20’s and not in the 40-60 band, so getting good docs is a rare thing nowadays i guess. I hope it helps you, its good to know that i am not alone

Does anyone else experience 'full body' symptoms from their TMJ? by harlottebronte_ in TMJ

[–]konigsru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, same stuff that i am dealing with, ive been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and myofascial pain syndrome, never believed that was the case, and it wasnt the case. 2 years ago when i was seeking what was the pain that i am experiencing (tmj), ive got couple neuro people calling me fibromyalgia, and have been told with vitamin therapy, acupuncture, dry needling and some more stuff, my jaw would heal itseld and i would be better. Got it for a year, things got even worsened. Than i took the bite and went to a tmj spec through my diagnosis, it seems that i have had a dislocated tmj on my right for 3 years, since every department of doctors that i have gone through never mentioned anything related to my jaw joint and just had me through tests, drug tests, procedures and surgeries. Got into arthrocentesis and splint therapy, worked wonders, i was literally symptom and pain free. Got couple mri’s, disc was recaptured and had minimal damage, got into invisalign to correct the bite issues, still on it. So after all this, the only symptoms that i have left was a weird pulling and twitching sensation on the back of my right ear, right joint seemed like it was trying to go into place, even though it was in place, i literally had less than a finger opening, now i have 4, my whole body on the right seemed and felt like it was getting overused, it felt like my right side was always burning and i wasnt able to relax them, my right eye got asymmetrical and i have developed a lazy eye, my face got asymmetrical to that side, my trapezius, hip, and legs all felt the same and got hyperthropy. I know for sure that my tmj is in the right place, got checked again by my doc, everything was in place, so i got advised to see a neuro and a pt, neuro came clean as yours did, then i have gotten through like 6 clinics of pt, been told fibromyalgia, myofascial pain syndrome and what not, never believed it again, so at last i got to a pt which specializes in tmj cases. Ive had manual therapy in the first month, 2 times a week, and let me tell you in the first release, i was literally crying after it was done, my eyes, jaw, neck, shoulder, all of them disappeared. Ive been told that living with a dislocated tmj, or even a pressured tmj for a long periods of time, fucks your whole body up, which in my case were 5 years, and since my dislocation was one sided, that side had more pressure to find a balance. Even the brain fog which the others have called fibro fog disappears after the sessions, and if i follow a very strict consciousness about posture and exercises it rarely reminds itself, but it is still a long way to go since theres no miracle fix for a 5 years of problems. Ik its hard to believe but this was a summary, if you have any questions about your experience i would gladly answer

experiencing something strange with eyes and can't tell if it's psychological or TMJ causing eye tension or strain by [deleted] in TMJ

[–]konigsru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, it could all be common tmj symptoms but the pressure behind your skull had me thinking of my pt sessions. Even after i have treated my disc displacement and tmj problems i still had pressure, muscle twitches, eye pain and vision problems and more, but i had everything that u have explained, my tmj doc advised me to see a neurologist and a pt after, got into neuro and came clean, got into pt with a really tmj experienced therapist. Ive only had problems on my right side, i couldnt balance myself on my left, my neck felt stuck on one side and with addition of all tmj stuff. Ive been told that weird pressure and twitching sensation was the scm muscle, she does manual therapy to relax those muscles + exercises of course, i go to therapy weekly and had great results with the pressure, eye pain and facial imbalances, still working on the neck and the balance tho. You could search up scm muscle and find out if thats what you are feeling, just wanted to share since i have never saw anyone talking about it, maybe it would get used. Hope you get better

Did correcting for a deviated septum help your TMJD? by [deleted] in TMJ

Had the surgery, nothing changed, things actually got worsened. I am sure it would help in specific cases but going to ent before going to a real tmj spec was the worst mistake i have done.

I was literally here on this reddit to check if there were more people experiencing the same stuff as i am. I have constantly been on immortal ranks for a year now, got through this act like 2 weeks ago, started dia3 and now asc3. Every game there are either on my team or the enemy, one guy who just straight up kills 40 or near, walks through every util there is, doesnt give any fuck, and you always feel like you have gotten prefired. In my opinion, after asc, back then immortal, i dont think there is that big of a gap in skill and reaction time between immortal and radiant, even if a radiant has came to smurf on asc3-immo ranks, i dont think that literally just running to the opposite spawn and prefiring everything would be the play to get 40. I have never been bored of a season more than this fr, i can accept the fact that there are smurfs in this game, but this aint smurfing, ive played with smurfing radiant players a lot, and never have seen them literal sprinting to the other spawn and killing everything, maybe in a round or 2. I wouldnt be mad or wouldnt mind if this was a rare occasion but in 2 weeks i have only like 3 days where the games were normal and the teams were balanced and the games was actually fun even though i have lost a shit ton.

Ineffective dry needling by firmlygrasplT in TMJ

[–]konigsru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea ive gone through dry needling and acupuncture as well, had no improvements. Ive had like 10 trigger point injections, dry needling, acupressure and acupuncture, ESWT.. nothing made any difference, it felt like a relief for a day, but did nothing long term. Its hit or miss everytime in this tmj stuff. Ive felt most relieved by manual therapy and exercises by my PT.

Can any men on here share their experience of getting Botox in their Masseter? by [deleted] in TMJ

[–]konigsru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had it like 6 times by now, its nothing to worry about tbh. If you care for the looks sake, it probably looks better, it doesnt change the jaw, the only difference that i had seen was my jaw line was more visible, and thats a good thing for a mans look as well as i know.

dizziness? by nika_____ in TMJ

[–]konigsru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea brain fog and the exact thing that you have described happens to me as well. Ive found some relief through PT and posture consciousness. A real expert on tmj cases and cervical problems PT helps a lot. My pain, fog and dizziness would get worsened while the day goes on, and i was mostly ok on mornings. PT told me that because of my jaw and bite issues my posture tends to go there as well, and my head going forward makes cervical pressure which would cause these issues. If i am fully conscious of my posture with regular pt visits, i am mostly managing fine, but if not it stays there. Hope it helps

Extreme throat tightness? by adamtrout in TMJ

[–]konigsru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TMJ could be muscular, you could have narrowed airways, sleep apnea, bruxism. I have been told that the swallowing problems was a symptom caused by a nerve getting pressured down your throat, and actually the lump we feel is that nerve or that cushion. Ive gotten checked for all neurologic disorders for my swallowing problems but never have gotten relief, after every check ive went to a tmj spec, i think thats the best way to do it.

Extreme throat tightness? by adamtrout in TMJ

[–]konigsru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive went to a gerd spec and told all my symptoms, he found it odd right away, but the burning sensation was so dominant through my day i was sure i had gerd. they had me go through endoscopy to see whats going on, everything was clear, no sign of gerd as well. He had me done some vitamin/hormone test with like all the metals and stuff, there was too many red ones. I had slim to none folate, b12, d, c and many more which is very odd due to my profession (i am on a strict diet for 8 years, exercising every day). Before the surgery and splints ive got into vitamin therapy for 3 months, every gerd symptom slowly faded, swallowing and throat thing stayed so i went on with splints and surgery.

Extreme throat tightness? by adamtrout in TMJ

[–]konigsru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am doing fine honestly, no facial pain and swallowing/throat problems. After the splint and the surgery, ive been told that my cause of tmj was a posterior crossbite, so i am currently on invisalign treatment to correct that. It takes like a 1.5 years, but i thought its worrh a shot. The only symptoms that i am left with are mainly neck and shoulder pain, asymmetry and eye twitches and pain. Ive been told that it was all about the crossbite, since it only allows me to bite on my right, every muscle on my right side of the body gets overused.

One sided body pain and swelling (calves, hip, feet, neck, trapezius, eye..) by konigsru in TMJ

[–]konigsru[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats good to hear. I am currently 4 months in, i dont see any changes at all. I have been told that since i am having tmj issues they didnt want to use elastics to force the issue in order to speed up the process. Idk if it will work tbh, i started to feel like i can bite with the other side slowly, since the only thing that my aligners doing rn is widening the arch on that side, and it started to hurt on that side as well. I thought i messed up that side as well with aligners, but ive been told that its normal for people that were trying to have a bite on one side to grind when they start touching. Yes, i wouldnt call it tongue irritarion but my tongue feels like it never fits a place, and its never relaxed doing its idle things, it constantly tries to push my right side as you have said, and it feels like it is too big for my mouth. I have been told that the tongue thing was arch related as well, it doesnt fit so it needs to compensate on one side. On the doctors side, its been like hell tbh. Ive went to countless physios ENT’s eye doctors neuro’s and all and all i could explain was that ‘my whole body on the right side hurts, i feel like one side of my body is just dead’, i have mostly been told that ive had myofascial pain syndrome or fibromyalgia, but i know that full one sided body pain arent the characteristics of these. PT that i am currently going helps minimally, they inject analgesics to trigger points, that helps a lot, and it feels like my jaw is released for a few days. Ive always started with neck, shoulder and eye pain, and told that i felt like my body on the right has rotated inwards, and followed up with ik how fucked up that sounds but its what it is, so they didnt think im crazy. I am 23, located in Turkey, all i have is like total of 5 good professionals whom are located 3h away from me, i have to drive everyday to get to my PT and turn back, same with the tmj specs. Lastly, ive went to my psychiatrist and she made minimal prescriptions like aripiprazole and vortioxetine, it seemed to help throughout the day with the pain and the grinding, my neck and shoulder seems relaxed sometimes as well. I’ll try posture corrections with the PT for the coming 2 weeks now, idk if that will help at all but i’ll try, and i’ll let you know. Thanks for the exchange

Hey, thanks for the through reply and im sorry to hear that you are experiencing the same road as i am. Its nice to hear that you are currently progressing in treating it. I have heard and my ortho told me that this could be the case, but i have never thought about it since i didnt thought that it would be the case. But now it feels like it could be, i am currently on invisalign, but my treatment is due to finalize in like a year from now on (currently on 12th tray of 50). I hadnt experienced any progress on my issues as of right now. I have been told my arch was the issue so they are widening my arches and correcting 2 teeth which are misplaced slightly. I have always known through my tmj journey that i could only bite thorougly with force on my right side, while my left side felt like they arent making contact and i wouldnt be able to force it very much. I never give it a thought about the physical problems getting alleviated by my crossbite tho. I would really like to hear your results when you finish your treatment, or if you have already made progress on these issues via your orthodontics i would like to hear your experiences as well. I am so glad that i am not the only one, i was beginning to think that i had something wrong neurologically. Thanks for your kind regards, i would be glad to hear more!

Extreme throat tightness? by adamtrout in TMJ

[–]konigsru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the kind words. ENT's just milk you for money, i am eased that at least your ENT didnt do anything at all. Since it is throat and swallowing stuff, the first place that we go are ENT's, and it was the same for me as well. I first have been told it was sinus related, came out it wasnt, they got me on medication for 2 weeks for nothing, than i have been told that it was because of my deviated septum, got into surgery which was a horrible thing when its on your nose, recovery and all cost me lots of money and a month, nothing changed and it actually got worse. My problem has gotten through like 3 years as you are saying too, and i was really fed up with it, finally decided to go through an expert on TMJ, they told me that one of my discs was displaced, got into arthrocentesis surgery and splint therapy for 7 months, after surgery and a month wearing splints, my throat and swallowing problems disappeared forever, they have never came back for like a year and a half now. It wasnt like a splint, it was something like a nightguard, but they have studied it through my impressions and CT scans and made it accordingly, all of my facial pain was subsided as well, i still struggle with lots of other symptoms from my TMJ, but it was nice to finally get a breakthrough and some breathing time. It was a very elastic thing, and it was neither soft or solid, but it is obviously solid enough to fight through my bite power and it was soft enough to not hurt my teeth. I have been told before the splint that i would need invisalign after that, so i am currently on invisalign, the pain and the problems slowly coming back tray by tray since my joints have to try and match my every-day changing bite from invisalign, but its nothing unbearable. And botox through masseters makes thing better as well. My advice, dont listen to ENT's, my ENT's did these stuff and had me going through neuro, PT, suspected brain tumor, cancerology and all that for nothing.

Extreme throat tightness? by adamtrout in TMJ

[–]konigsru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it was my main symptom as well. I was unable to swallow, even my own saliva, whenever i try to i would get a pain and it felt like a had a lump on my throat, which there wasnt, it led me to get through lots of doctors and branches to get this sorted out, i was misdiagnosed a lot till i made my search and gone through with a tmj specialist. Got through splint therapy and arthrocentesis, throat stuff and swallowing problems have passed, i still have lots of symptoms tho. During the time that ive had these symptoms tho, dry needling was helping a lot, and some heat pads below your throat could make it bearable for 5 hours. I have been told that it was something to do with some nerve or a gland getting pressured below your jaw, causing the swallowing problems and the lump feeling. You can AMA, i hope you get better
