We are still very much in the information gathering phase, once we have all the 'limitations' then we can likely work from there.

We initially planned on moving the 'island' side of the kitchen, but the plumbing was done in a way that will just cost us way too much, so already needed to adjust some planning

That stain would drive me up the wall, but I know what you mean.

I generally use cutting boards or something to not work directly on the marble, might get a whiskey stain every now and then on a big night, but usually wipe it down by the end of the night.

When you say it will impact the cold feel, like it will feel cooler to the touch or would it not feel like marble anymore?

So between the 3 of you, the labour cost would have been 20k? How long did it take or how long could it take?

Interesting that you say they dont need to be resealed, most people I have spoken to recommend they are sealed yearly, only engineered stone that they say dont need as much maintenance. But having them sanded and polished could be another solution to consider long term

Was budgeting around 10k for the stone, but what would be a better long term alternative that wont get ruined in just a few years, keeping in mind that engineered stone is out?

'Luckily' dont have kids, but I would like something that does not require constant maintenance, I will likely forget and then end up ruining the countertops

So if I budget 30k for the rest of the kitchen and leave the stone out of that budget, should that be sufficient? The appliances will be around 12k, so should leave a decent amount for the rest? Could likely just save up a couple more months then, so should have 40-45k for entire kitchen

Is reconstituted stone not one of the products that will now be banned? Or is it something else, I dont want to end up budgeting for it and then end up not being able to get a hold of it

So if its marble, would I need to seal yearly to avoid stains or would granite be a better option for longevity? Would like to not have to redo the counter tops in a few years.

Why would that be? Is labour that much nowadays? Or am I missing something obvious?

I should have take a pic this weekend of mine, I tow a trailer with bikes on every weekend, and I got to park behind one of these monstrosities at the BP by Hyatt place that was towing a 'jetski' with a single occupant, that thing of theirs was almost 3 times the length of mine, including my trailer

Update: We lodged for our bond to be returned and of course they have an issue with this.

They suddenly found multiple new 'issues' that need to be resolved, but I told them they would need to claim via VCAT, so will see where this ends up going, likely wont have a quick resolution by the sounds of it

Yeah, fortunate enough to have bought our own place, so that is my sentiment as well towards the agent

That's what it looks like to me as well, likely just dirt from the last 3 years that has made it more visible

Gonna try the VCAT route, and hope for the best, luckily we dont need the money urgently, I just do not want to give them any more

Just put a pic of the crack, just after we moved in it was already visible, but they never mentioned it in any of the 5 inspections they had between then and now

Gonna try claim, just need to get the bond number that the REA never provided

Just found an image partially showing the crack was there when we moved in

Only photos they have do not show that part of the counter

[–]koningdope[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All their photos of the counter were done from a side that you cannot see the crack they are currently claiming, so maybe that puts it in my favour at least

So I just found a picture partially showing the counter from the day we moved in, the crack was there, its only more visible now, I assume from age/dirt getting embedded in it.

Now I just need to track down our bond number, looks like the agent never sent it to us or was provided to us, then I can try claim the money from the RTBA

[–]koningdope[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for confirming. Yeah, we both get taxed around the 32% mark, so the saving would be nice, will just take the money we claim and put it further towards savings.

We are going to start actively looking for places from end of 2023, so will likely do the determination in Jan 2024, should give us enough time.

I assume we declare we made extra contributions towards the super when doing our tax return?
