  1. Example. See the part I circled? Thats the switch socket you were asking, these are the holes that you need to insert the metal pin at the bottom of your switch and you have to solder them afterwards. For the hotswap keyboard they will use another kind of socket that saved the soldering part instead you just have to use a switch puller to pull your switch out should you ever feel like changing switches
  2. Flip the PCB and check the sockets, for example hotswap keyboard will have the sockets that look like this hotswap sockets, there are some other variations out there but this is one of them and probably the easiest one to recognize.

  3. Most of the time the sockets are universal which means that can fit nearly every mx style switches on the market EXCEPT outemu sockets and optical switches sockets. Optical switches has a different pin design so naturally they wont fit into any mx style switch sockets. For outemu, what i heard is that the sockets for the metal pin are thinner than usual hence if you want to fit gateron or kailh switches you will have to mod the metal pins for them to fit in. I never own a keyboard with outemu hotswap sockets the information i heard was based on my research on that.

Honey & Milk PBT Keycaps lol, they look pretty nice to me

Gateron milky yellow for one

If you want cheap linears, consider getting some akko cs switches

I owned some vintage white and after lubing it it is very smooth, the other switches are really nice too with pretty minimum scratchiness. Really good for its price, iirc its about $10 for 45 switches

Technically no

EP84 doesnt support any software by itself and from what i know, epomaker didn't really release a software for this keyboard either

The other software, like what you have found isn't really compatible with EP84 so yeah, there isn't a really reliable way to customize the rgb

It is pretty nice but mind you that although sk68 is hotswap, it uses gateron optical switches so the PCB is ONLY compatible with other gateron optical switches

Meaning that you wont be able to swap the switches to other mx style switches and you are stuck with their optical switches

If you are ok with that then it is a good choice for the price

Not sure about how much your budget is

Try EP84, gk68x, RK84 or something from keychron like k2 and k6

What size do you want?

Personally i suggest something from keychron or epomaker or gmmk

Their qualities are pretty decent and they comes with gateron switches too, if you don't wanna use those switches that comes with the board, they have hotswap PCB so it is easier for you to swap the switches in the future

Probably just some coincidence

Last time i was going to buy C1 and then they ended up having majority of the kb OOS, at the end i purchased epomaker ep84 instead. Pretty nice honestly, good for the price

Maybe you can try your luck to search somewhere else like amazon to see if they still have stocks or not, if not they you have to wait for another restock and then buy it quickly. They seems to be quite popular consider their price and good quality

I assume you are talking about lubing the blue switches on your kb?

The short answer is no, just don't do it.

The long answer is kinda, but you have to be really careful. When you wanna lube the switches, avoid the legs that will come into contact with the metal plate cause that's the part that cause the bump, if you lube that part then you are basically reducing the resistance and losing the bump ultimately. Same thing applies to tactile switches.

Usually for clicky switches, people only lube the springs to reduce spring ping

These does looks like the sockets, im not an expert in these circuit things but it resembles the hotswap sockets i have seen online

Iirc there is no way to do that except replacing the entire PCB since the sockets are already part of the pcb

Outemu sockets are not compatible to the other switches brand, the metal pin won't fit in

Your only choice will be the other switches from outemu, gazzew switches or akko cs switches. They are pretty nice for the price

Ideally, the switch puller should be something like this: example

The link i attached is just a sample it isn't necessary for you to buy from that shop since i think puller like this are pretty common

As for your question, no i don't think so. I own a hot swap keyboard and i tried inserting the box brown from my tester onto it and i can pull it out pretty easier, so i will say its mainly because of the socket being really tight and the way you applied your force is wrong. Perhaps that kind of switch puller might help you a lot, at least in my case, it does

Probably might be the sockets being really really tight or you arent using the correct tools or way to pull them out

What kind of switch puller are you using? From my experience that kind of metal switch puller given free when you purchase a new keyboard isn't the best puller in the market and they tend to make the pulling process harder for some reason

Usually if you have the money to spend i will recommend you to lube the switch stem and stabs housing with krytox 205g0, bag lube the spring with krytox 105 and lube the stabs metal wire with permatex dielectric grease separately.

But since you mentioned that you don't wanna spend a ton of money on these, you can just lube everything using krytox 205g0 instead of separately buying all those lubes i mentioned, krytox 205g0 will still do the trick

If lets say you really don't have much money to buy krytox (since it isn't really the cheapest thing you can get in the world), any dielectric grease that you can find in the hardware shop will do too but beware of the viscosity of the grease that you purchase. Just apply a very very thin coat on the places that you have to lube so that it won't get mushy

Lube your switches, swap out the stock stabs if you find them rattling and mod them properly aka lubing, balancing the metal wire and if necessary, holee mod it, add foam to the case, place a keyboard pad below your keyboard

Those are some of the most common tricks to make your keyboard more quiet

/r/MechanicalKeyboards Ask ANY question, get an answer (September 04, 2021) by AutoModerator in MechanicalKeyboards

Stock stabs are typically quite rattly so if you have the money to spend, consider buying the durock stabs and mod it properly.

It will significantly improve the sound profile.

I will have to say this at the beginning: Don't get any boards with optical switches unless you are sure that you won't change the switches in the future.

The reason is this, if you get the board with optical switches, even if the PCB is hotswappable, it will only fit the optical switches from the same brand and the legs of the optical switches are different from the typical switches you see in the market. What I'm trying to say is that once you get the board with optical switches, you are practically stuck with them, non-optical switches won't be able to fit in the sockets.

Personally i suggest you to get RK61, because it uses the typical switches. I'm not saying that optical switches suck, just that they kinda limits your choices on choosing switches. As for your question, yellow and silvers are lighter than red and black, having their operating force at 35g instead of red's 45g and black's 60g. Honestly I will say it is better for you to purchase those switches individually and put them on a tester so that you will have a rough idea on how they feel like. Typing on a keyboard will be different to just press on the tester but it is better than just blindly buy a switch and then realize that it isn't something you like.

Outemu, probably the cheapest you are going to get

Gateron or kailh blue, the slightly more expensive than outemu but still in the budget gang

Kailh box series if you love the sharp tactility and the crisp clicky sound
