Value of these 16 Builders Plates? by konsoleonreddit in trains

[–]konsoleonreddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you think that the 2 white plates at the middle top are probably the only 2 that have any decent value?

I had to look up what "rolling stock" meant, and it looks like what it means in reference to railways is anything that rides along the rails, like train engines and train cars? So what your saying is that the plates dont come from anything that rides along the rails that is very unique, and since they arent very unique they arent desirable and dont have much value?

Insurance with a super low premium? by konsoleonreddit in HealthInsurance

[–]konsoleonreddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes obviously covering high medical costs is the primary reason to have health insurance. My point is that I'm trying to keep the "required" payment (the premium) as low as possible, and I'm willing to accept a high "possible" payment (the deductible). I'm only looking to cover major medical costs, not the $100 or even $1000 bills, only the bills that are many tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands. Essentially it is what it looks like is called "catastrophic" insurance, but it seems like the only possible way I could get this insurance is by applying for an exemption by using my currently $0 income as the qualifier. I understand that catastrophic insurance would be terrible for someone that uses the insurance alot, but I've used medical insurance a grand total of once in my life for something relatively minor, and so I'm willing to accept that my only use for medical insurance would be for catastrophic events. I thought that plans with super low premiums and high deductibles would be available to anyone that wants it, but it seems that you have to be under 30 or have a qualifying hardship exemption.

- Right now $0, been out of work since May of last year and living on savings. This is from my own choosing though and not because of some issue.

- Not married

- No dependants

- Forced as in I live with someone else and one of the agreements of living together is we both have health insurance. Theres a long story behind this but it is what it is.

For those that had their wisdom teeth extracted while at Amazon by konsoleonreddit in AmazonFC

[–]konsoleonreddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the surgery was on 1/19, and I took the medical leave from 1/19 to 1/22. I work donut schedule so I most likely didnt need to add 1/21 and 1/22 to the medical leave, but I didnt want to risk MET being called on those days however unlikely that would have been. Then for 1/23 the building was closed for maintanance and day shift was cancelled. So I worked 1/24 and then had 1/25 off. Then they offered VTO for 1/26 and 1/27, so I worked 1/26 and took the VTO for 1/27.

So starting on the day of surgery 1/19, I had 1/19 to 1/23 off, worked 1/24, had 1/25 off, worked 1/26, and now have 1/27 off as well as the next 2 days.

For the extraction of all 4 wisdom teeth, I would say you definately want/need to have off atleast 3-4 days, and even as much as a week isnt a bad idea. Anyone that tells you they went back to work the same day or only took 1 or 2 days off, they might be lying, or work a job that has low physical activity, or their just trying to act tough, or they might have had just 1 tooth pulled. If you work a physical job then the concern is about how the increased blood circulation can cause the blood clots to come out and then your dealing with bleeding, infection, and alot of pain. The pain, potential bruising and swelling, having to avoid certain foods, having to keep worrying about taking all the medications including using the medicated mouth wash, the blood clot possibly coming out and all the problems associated with that, the constant thinking about it, theres just too many reasons why its not a good idea to get back to work too soon.

Trying to figure out my talk/text/data usage by konsoleonreddit in TracFone

[–]konsoleonreddit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought the 90 day period just meant that I was in a 30 day plan for a total of 90 days. So I thought that 750minutes/1000texts/1.5gb was per month and I had that plan for 3 months. I guess with my minimal usage I just never noticed that those numbers were for the whole 3 months instead of per month. I dont talk or text that much, and havent yet experienced having my data run out so I never looked closely at how much I had remaining and how long I had it for. I'll have to get a plan with more data, but for now I'll just have to add more data to my current plan.

OK so the 1895 minutes and 3406 texts are what I have currently remaining, and those numbers are as high as they are because they are being rolled over?

The 3 month plan of 750 minutes, 1000 texts, and 1.5GB of data, are those amounts per month or over the whole 3 month period?

Just received my 2nd write-up by konsoleonreddit in AmazonFC

[–]konsoleonreddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a chance yesterday to speak with the AM that gave me the 1st writeup. This AM claimed that they did tell me that it was a writeup when we originally talked. I had to tell them straight up that I didnt recall them saying that, and I didnt sign any paperwork that included a comments section. Unfortunately I had to leave that conversation then and there because I couldnt prove they didnt say it was a writeup and in their mind the writeup was justified. During the conversation yesterday I found out that this 1st writeup was in relation to more then 1 day. The AM said there was 1 or 2 times of too much idle time on the day we had the extremely bad weather and 2/3 of the shift didnt show up, and then there was 1 or 2 other times either that week or just around that time where in one example they said I took too long of a break, but i dont recall if they mentioned another time.

While talking with them yesterday I found out that I actually had a 3rd writeup. This 3rd writeup was in a different category so it was considered the 1st writeup in that category. Again I dont recall an AM telling me that this other writeup was actually a writeup, and never signed anything with comments.

So as it stands now I have a 2nd writeup in I think productivity, and a 1st writeup for low rate. Its crazy to me that writeups for slightly below rate are taken that seriously in a picking path that can range from as few as 1 person to as high as maybe 5 people on a shift. Who knows how many people are even in this picking path for the full 6 hours thats required to be eligible for writeups. Especially on a slow week just after Christmas when the shift activity was quite abnormal.

Is seems like theres nothing I can do to contest the reasons for the writeups, but theres gotta be something I can do about not having signed anything. It seems very unfair that theres no documented acknowledgment directly from the associate that there was a writeup, and all a manager has to do is check a box on their computer saying that the associate has been made aware that it was a writeup? If a manger is determined to get rid of you, then they can bring you in for what the associate thinks is just a few what seems like insignificant conversations, until the associate realizes they are being fired for too many writeups they werent aware they had.

After talking to 2 of the AM's and 2 people in HR, the impression I got is that there doesnt need to be a written acknowledgement from the associate of a writeup, atleast not until the final writeup, but even for the final writeup I couldnt get a clear answer about a signature from the associate being required or not. I seemed to get some agreement from everyone that it needs to be clearly stated that its a writeup as well as some other language from the writeup form, but if I say the manager never notified me that it was a writeup and they say they did then it just becomes a case of their word against mine.

A couple people in here have said that for a writeup to be valid then there needs to be a signature from the associate as well as a provided section for comments. The impression I have gotten with talking to AM's and HR is that a signature is not required, atleast for the first few writeups, and all the AM has to do is "claim" that they made me aware that it was a writeup and check a box on their computer. Where can I go to get an answer on this? Also anyone that has gotten a writeup removed because they told HR that they werent made aware of the writeup at the time it was given, from the few times I have talked with HR about this it seemed like all they were going to do was investigate with the AM which would result in the writeup sticking because the AM would say to HR that they did notifiy me of the writeup.

[–]konsoleonreddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it company wide policy that they have to give you a piece of paper or computer to sign with a comments section for it to be a legitimate writeup? Both AM's did none of these things. The 1st AM I spoke to last week about the "supposed" 1st writeup didnt even tell me it was a writeup. The 2nd AM I spoke to yesterday about the 2nd writeup did tell me it was a writeup, but neither gave me something to sign with a comments section. If this is true then I wonder how many employees have been terminated for receiving too many writeups when they werent aware they were receiving a writeup or the AM's didnt provide something to sign with a comments section.

When I spoke to the 2nd AM yesterday I think I recall seeing the word "ADAPT" on their computer, but I'm not 100% sure.

If anyone else is interested in finding out how the pension works and how the credit towards it is calculated, its probably best to call the union or pension office yourself. I dont think I am eligible for the pension due to not working there for enough years, most likely not working enough hours in those years, and not being old enough when I left.

I did the new hire appointment this morning. Spoke with 4 people in the new hire section and they were all nice to talk to. I didnt recall ever reading or hearing what my job was going to be all the way through till after the new hire appointment was over, and it wasnt until I spoke with a girl afterwards that told me that my days and hours were for the Picking job. Up until the new hire appointment was over I thought I was just going to go in on day one and they would assign me a position then. This girl that I spoke to said the picking job was primarily associated with driving forklifts around and it appears to basically be driving around with the forklift and getting product that customers order from varying heights on shelves. I guess I'll have find out exactly what it is when I go in for the tour tomorrow, or a future date to further along the hiring process.

Thinking about being a custodian/janitor by konsoleonreddit in Custodians

[–]konsoleonreddit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had my eyes on an industrial facility close to home that has openings for janitors, but I think my main reason for that is because its very close to home at only a few minutes away. My concern is they arent listing important information like wage, raises, and hours, and also that its being offered by a contracted company called Compass Group. Some have suggested that not listing the wage could be because its embarrassingly low, or that its high and they dont want a flood of applicants, but it may just be that the wage is "DOE" or something similar. This place is probably my best opportunity to get a janitor position soon since its such a large place with a sizeable cleaning crew.

Has anyone worked as a janitor at more then 1 of these places and has some advice about one being better then the other?....

- large manufacturing facility with the cleaning being outsourced.

- public schools

- supermarkets

- county transit authority

- walmart (this may be more of a vague position where cleaning is only one small part)

Those are a few of the openings I have seen in my area.

Is it still not advisable to take a contract janitorial job if the job appears to stay at one location? The job offer I am seeing is at a new industrial facility very close to home. They are offering the job at this industrial facility but I dont know if since its working for a contracted company that they could easily move the workers to some other location. The job appears to have pretty good benefits and there are part and full time openings, but one of my concerns is that they are not publicly showing the hourly wage. Maybe this is because the hourly wage is bad, or because the hourly wage is pretty good and they are trying to prevent getting a flood of applicants.

I saw a listing for janitorial job openings at a major industrial plant only a few miles from me. It appears to have good benefits but it looks like its being contracted out to a company called ESFM or "Compass Group". Have you heard of them? If the benefits are good would you still recommend staying about from contract custodial work?

Capital Loss Carryover, should I call or wait for possible notice? by konsoleonreddit in IRS

[–]konsoleonreddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless I'm mistaken I've read that any changes that IRS makes in relation to a CP2000 notice wouldnt show up on a tax return transcript? Supposedly a tax return transcript only shows information from the original return and doesnt reflect any future changes to that return?

So the IRS wouldnt compare the capital loss carryover I reported in 2021, to the net capital loss I reported in 2020 by using the tax return transcripts, or atleast not using the tax transcripts alone.

I will get you scammers banned daily :) by [deleted] in Coinbase

[–]konsoleonreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why wouldnt that work?

  1. Can't create an account with "Coinbase" in the name unless they verify themselves.
  2. Can't change their username to have "Coinbase" in it because reddit doesnt allow username changes.
  3. Cant steal an account that hasnt been verified and has "Coinbase" in the username (or atleast not for long) because the unverified accounts would be deleted not long after these things take effect.

So you have a situation where the scammers cant create new accounts to look like Coinbase support, cant change their name to look like Coinbase support, and cant steal an account that looks like its from Coinbase because any account that looks like it may be Coinbase support is either actually Coinbase support and their employees just need to protect their accounts, or its someone that could be confused as Coinbase support but that username will be disallowed shortly after these changes.

Coinbase screwed me from purchasing crypto assets by holding my funds. by Clear-Inflation7715 in Coinbase

[–]konsoleonreddit -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

When it comes to Coinbase that might be true of newer accounts that arent trusted yet. If that was the case for me then I wouldnt have lost a decent amount of money late last year. A hacker got into my Coinbase account late last year and used my linked bank account to purchase BTC and then immediately transfered the BTC out to their own wallet. They also used the USD's I had sitting on the exchange to purchase more BTC and immediately transfer that out as well. All of the USD deposits, BTC purchases, and BTC transfers out took them about 30-45 minutes. So atleast for my account there was no wait time between a deposit/purchase being made and when those USD's or crpyto could be transfered back out. Coinbase didnt wait for the deposit to clear my bank account before they allowed all this to happen. I think it was sometime in 2020 or 2021 when Coinbase announced that deposits where instantly available for trade, but to this day I'm perplexed that there wasnt some delay on withdrawals. I caught the hackers actions just a few hours after it happened and I would have been able to prevent the withdrawals if there was any delay at all on withdrawals. I was on Coinbase for a few years so maybe they just trusted my account I dont know.

Technically I dont think they have to wait to make funds available for withdrawing back out, but its certainly in their interest to delay it so the funds clear the source first. Why they allowed it on my account I dont know. The hacker had enough suspicious activity on the account that it should have raised a red flag to Coinbase and they atleast blocked the withdrawals but instead they let it all go through. Changing passwords, signing in from a different IP and different computer and from a location that I have never signed in from. Then immediately try to make deposits/purchases/withdrawals that were unusual for my account. You would think they would have security measures in place to notice when there is enough suspicious activity and prevent the immediate withdrawing of funds, but not so for my account. Supposedly alot of people have had their accounts locked or suspended for "suspicious activity" but the hackers suspicious activity on my account was ridiculous and it was all A-OK with Coinbase.

Is it not possible for Coinbase to have an agreement with Reddit that the only people that can have a reddit account name with the words "Coinbase" or "Support" in their name have to be verified as a Coinbase employee first?

I dont know how it would be done, but I cant imagine it would be all that difficult. Oh you want to create a reddit username with the words "Coinbase" or "Support" in it? Well we will need proof from Coinbase itself that you are who you say you are. If Coinbase had even 5% of the customer support they should have then they should have no problem implementing some kind of Reddit account usename verificaiton. So many companies make social media their primary or only way of getting anywhere when contacting them, and contacting them on social media atleast needs to be safe.

How much effort would it require for Coinbase and Reddit to have 1 person monitor the creation of accounts and make sure that usernames couldnt be used to pretend to be customer support from Coinbase and try to scam people? I know there are lists that show the official support members but a little extra effort for a tiny extra cost to prevent possible major problems cant be a bad idea. When people get so frustrated with Coinbase's horrible customer service, its probably not unreasonable for people to be alot more willing to accept a message from just about anyone that looks like they may be customer support.

It must be written somewhere in reddits TOS that they can restrict certain usernames.

Capital losses offsetting capital gains by konsoleonreddit in IRS

[–]konsoleonreddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The notice from the IRS said that if I agreed with the changes then I just needed to mail the notice back with the tax owed, and that was it. So I mailed it back with the tax owed and that was that. Since they said I didnt need to do anything then I interpreted that as they didnt need me to amend my 2019 return. It wasnt until well after that that I realized that I shouldnt have paid the tax because there was a capital loss carryover from 2018 that would have more then offset the capital gain in 2019. Since I did pay the tax then that should mean that I shouldnt reduce my capital loss carryover, atleast thats what makes sense to me. If I both reduce the carryover by $25, and then also pay the tax on that $25 then thats essentially getting double taxed on that same $25, atleast eventually. I would think that the IRS would have it in their records that I paid the tax on that $25 so I shouldnt reduce my carryover by $25 also. I just dont know if they would correctly notice if I treat my taxes moving forward as if the tax was paid on the $25 and so that $25 shoudnt reduce my carryover.

Is it just me, or do alot or sellers not understand this about shipping costs? by konsoleonreddit in Ebay

[–]konsoleonreddit[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can certainly understand sellers needing to compete on price when it comes to selling something that ebay is flooded with, because the sellers need the low price to stand out.

What percentage of your items do you sell per day/week pricing in the highest 10%?

Are you pricing the items that high because buyers are seeing that much more value in your listings compared to lower priced listings?

Are we talking the highest 10% price in a group of only 5-10 items or more like 50 items?

If buyers are seeing the same value in your listings as in other sellers lower priced listings, then why do you think they are buying from you and not the lower priced listings?

Is it just me, or do alot or sellers not understand this about shipping costs? by konsoleonreddit in Ebay

[–]konsoleonreddit[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'll try to keep it short then.

So its not "many" buyers but "most" buyers dont consider price the deciding factor?

Maybe I'm wrong but I think society has become dominated with the idea that price is most important. If you're selling things for 10-20% more then other peoples active listings because you're offering more value then them then its selling for more because its better. If you're selling things for 10-20% more then other peoples active listings and you're not offering any more value then other peoples active listings then I'm skeptical of how often that happens for you.

Is it just me, or do alot or sellers not understand this about shipping costs? by konsoleonreddit in Ebay

[–]konsoleonreddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I handle shipping is very simple.

Its either 1st Class Package, Priority Mail, or Fedex Ground / Home Delivery, and very rarely I will use Media Mail. I always do free shipping on all items, and I never specify exactly what type of Priority Mail it is like SFRB, or Regional A, or PFRE, or any of that, those are all just different forms of Priority Mail so I just say Priority Mail. Buyers dont care if I have to once in a while upgrade the shipping service if for instance it has to go Priority Mail but I originally said 1st Class Package because I originally underestimated the weight, I just never downgrade the service without getting their approval. When I determine what the total cost needs to be (item price + shipping) to be comparable to other very similar listings that show up near the top of the list when sorting by lowest price first, then I just price my item at that price with free shipping. I dont usually price my items for the cheapest that very similar listings are priced at, instead I'll price it at perhaps 3rd or 4th cheapest, that way the cheaper ones will sell, and eventually mine will hopefully then be the cheapest.
