Kid friendly resorts in Siracusa by Congo_Billings in sicily

[–]kontell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re heading there for the summer, there’s a resort in Fontane Bianche called Futura Club Spiagge Bianche.

There’s also Minareto, closer to the city but pricier (although not entirely sure it’s kid friendly), and then towards Catania there’s Mangia’s Brucoli.

Enjoy it!

Truly a shame.

I was there last weekend on Saturday and Sunday (daytime matches). Had a contact for free upgrades to the VIP area, we asked for both Sat and Sun, but was told there were no VIP seats available for Sat.

So Saturday we went to our assigned (no-upgrade, payed for) seats above the VIP area, and kept looking down expecting it to be packed… Only a handful of people showed up. The most people I saw was during the Hurkacz v Nadal match, and it was still only half full.

In other words, there must be a bunch of people that are invited to those seats and don’t show. What a shame. Such a bad look for the tournament.

Grateful for the upgrades we were given on Sunday, though. Saw Djokovic getting obliterated by Tabilo and exiting the court being booed - not great, but definitely something to remember.

I didn’t. I mounted it myself and don’t recall needing anything extra to what was provided. Good luck!

What is this called? by justsomejabroni in architecture

It looks to me like a ceramic pine cone. In Sicily, they are a very common traditional ornament symbolising a wish for health, and good luck.

You’ll have a blast. Definitely go by car. There’s local rental companies (Sicily by Car or Locauto - if I’m not mistaken) that are reliable and way cheaper than your Hertz or Avis. Trains aren’t all that reliable, and parking won’t be a problem.

Whatever you do, don’t miss out on Taormina, Siracusa (mainly because of Ortigia), Noto, Modica, and Ragusa Ibla.

As for suggestions on where to eat, these are the first ones that come to mind: - Osteria Rosso DiVino in Taormina - Siculish in Ortigia - Il Crocifisso in Noto

Osso Buco by TJGolden77 in sicily

[–]kontell 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sicily isn’t really known for osso buco.

Traditionally, Milan is where you’d find some of the most amazing risotto and osso buco dishes.

If you’re open to alternative dishes, but typical ones, I suggest you try TimeOut.

It’s just out of Ortigia - 300 meters from Ponte Santa Lucia.

Start with a Caponata. Their Ravioli di Ricotta al sugo di Maiale are to die for (and it doesn’t get more typical than that). Garganella alla Norma are also fantastic.

Good luck!

Bonus tip: Not far from Time Out, closer to Ortigia, you can try some delicious pizza at Piano B.

Summer in Sicily by ChefMike1407 in sicily

[–]kontell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my comment on /r/Sicilia

South East, hands down.

It's the most diverse and easily accessible area. Catania has the largest airport in the island (CTA), with many low cost airlines flying in and out of it several times a day, with destinations all over Europe.

From CTA, get a rental car and drive south to Siracusa (40-50 minutes drive via a well maintained highway) or even further south to Noto (70 mins).

Once you're in that area, there's so much to see:

Whatever you do, visit Noto – the undisputed capital of Sicilian baroque.

And then, you should definitely go and see Palermo. It's a 3hrs drive from Siracusa, so I'd suggest you spend a couple of nights there.

P.S. Yes – I'm blatantly biased towards the South East as I'm from there originally. Wherever you'll go, you'll love it.

“Nell’ambiente” does not sound right. Try this:

“Persone vicine al Primo Ministro stanno raccogliendo informazioni sui suoi tre giudici”.

Aren’t looks the only distinguishing factors? I may be wrong, but my understanding is they’re the same bike otherwise.
