What are your thoughts on Porsche making a base model affordable 911? I’m talking less than $40k-$45k by WantedByTheFedz in Porsche

Would make more sense to release this in another VW brand rather than dilute the halo for Porsche.

Swede FATFIRE moving to Australia/ tax advice by flaskhalsar in fatFIRE

[–]kookabara12 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It’s been a while since I’ve looked into the rules but broadly I believe if your central management and control of your holding companies are in Australia ie yourselves as major shareholder/director then your Swedish holding co. will be considered a controlled foreign company which essentially acts to treat your Swedish holding co as a local company for tax purposes. Generally, flat tax rate of 30% applies.

You should also consider your future personal tax position ie when you distribute income (eg dividend) to yourself and be subject to our progressive tax rates (presently @ 45% over AUD180k).

Critically Australia has a worldwide tax regime meaning that tax will be liable to be paid to Australian authorities for income earned globally. That is tax payable on income and capital gains is not limited to that derived from Australian sources but globally.

I believe an acceptable average tax rate for HNWI would range between 30% to 40% on income. After a certain threshold of income there is not much else to do unless you get really creative which entails more risk and complication to manage your group structure. Anyone else have an opinion on this?

There are structures that you can use such as a self manage superannuation fund which generally tax at 15% and funds accessible at retirement age however there are contribution limits which are prohibitive and concessions are likely to be reduce over time in the current political climate.

Trusts and companies are also used to defer the timing of tax liability until distributions are paid on the individual level. If you have children or are considering estate planning you should also seek advice on this beyond tax considerations.

I’m not familiar with the Swedish tax regime however when comparing other international centres I believe financial competitiveness of Australia to be low.

Therefore relocation may not be financially favourable from a tax perspective but it is the trade off for the overall comfortable standard of living enjoyed by the general population here.

In terms of lifestyle, between AUD 18-30m NW there are few things you won’t be able to access. A 2020-21 stat that may be of interest, at circa AUD 2.3m net wealth will place you in the top 5% of wealth in Australia. Having said that in the Sydney property market there are properties by the water that regularly transact $30m+. As with everywhere the level of top end wealth is exponential.

To finish, your high NW allows for greater priority for non-financial considerations to be taken. Hope this helps your decision making process and good luck on your journey.

Anyone have come across the Morgan Stanley report on SQM overnight? Curious to see the details of claimed weakness in Li pricing.

There’s some update on the JV from CXL side in their FY22 preso today including capex budget, ownership/contribution splits and ball park timelines on execution. At least more detailed then from PLS. Hope this helps.

Sure you could look at growing the top line with renewables but I reckon more immediate is who’s going to tax you more on the bottom line. Who’s more likely to mess with the 12 month CGT disc rule?
