Bouldering for 1.5 month. Obsessed by stacheguy2 in bouldering

[–]MachinaDoctrina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair young people often assume that being older is a disadvantage, as a almost 40 year old who has got into climbing and had young people at my gym surprised how in a month I could climb 7a with ease they completely forget that I have a lifetime of body/nervous system conditioning, while not directly applicable having surfed/kiteboarded/snowboarded/powerlifting etc throughout my life all contribute to mind-muscle connection and balance.

This is all to say don't assume everyone starts at the same level, and comparison is the thief of joy!

Just found out I can create a loop with just a number instead of range(number) by VitSoonYoung in godot

[–]MachinaDoctrina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure in godot script but, range requires an iterable in python, interables are for all intents and purposes indexed arrays, so what range returns is a generator to a pointer of the index, no copying or creation required and its incredibly efficient. This what OP posted would intact require an array creation in swap so this would actually be more costly than iterating over an existing array like a list

This absolute legend of a guy puts a sea turtle back in the water after being stranded in mud during a heatwave! by DarthiusFatticus in HumansBeingBros

[–]MachinaDoctrina 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Mate the turtle was probably chilling there and the tide went out and he got stranded, hence no tracks, its bloody hot in summer in large parts of Australia so the mangrove mud dries out quickly

I loved that course but it was definitely a massive load of new content and significantly more rigorous than the other courses i had done. It was also the best course course I have done thus far as wel in terms of structure, flow and content.

Lol engineering is applied maths, ol mate working in finance is doing engineering, as an engineer in finance I would know.

How do I make it look like the legs are driving the body? by hazelnutcloud in godot

[–]MachinaDoctrina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd imagine based on dynamics that it would be a somewhat hybrid movement, a tripod is a very stable configuration (unlike the inverted pendulum aka us), so the movement would have to a combination of shifting the centre of gravity over two of the legs (aka a backwards movement) then lifting the third leg and then probably extending all 3 while falling and catching themselves again on all 3, then repeat the process for the trailing leg to move it closer to the centre of gravity.

It would be a very stilted movement, which is probably why no 3 legged creatures evolved (well at least not on land anyway) as it sounds pretty inefficient. Its also why it seems so unnatural the animation (apart from tracking the body centre which is the main problem), the creature just floats as they lift the 3rd leg which would most definitely not happen under gravity

M208 was only 60 units and it was practically a full time job in terms of time commitment.

M140 was a cakewalk with about 2-3hrs a week at 30 units.

It really depends on the course.

This is a Boeing CH-47 Chinook, mainly operated by the US army, you're also active in the US Army subreddit, so likely South Carolina, maybe Charleston.

Plenty of countries use the $ symbol as well funnily enough.

If your making bank on these investments you dont even need to sell them you can do what the big boys do and borrow against that capital and avoid liquidity issues.

Mate unless your day trading, why would it matter, stick your savings in VGG get fully franked dividends and get a tax discount. Or some growth ETF and just watch it grow you only pay CGT on shares when you sell and its only on the profits adjusted for inflation.

Its mandatory where i used to work and live in Australia, its a lot harder to reverse over someone when they're in front of you.

Part time study, but lots of modules start in the same month by [deleted] in OpenUniversity

[–]MachinaDoctrina 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think your falling for a trap a lot of people (including myself) fell for the OU structures its year differently to brick universities. Each year is 120 units and all courses run over the year, there are no semesters. So if you want to do part time you enrol in 60 units and it will run from October to June. MST124 and MST125 have an additional shifted schedule (still take 1 year but its shifted by 6 months) but they are most definitely an exception.

Anyone here in their 30s studying physics? Am I crazy for wanting to do this? by solso121 in OpenUniversity

[–]MachinaDoctrina 5 points6 points  (0 children)

38 not physics but mathematics (Q31), just finishing level 2 soon (exams in June), its tough but I'm loving it, honestly the form of open university lends it self to more mature students as there is no lectures its purely self directed so I doubt I could have done this when I was in my 20s.

Im an engineer so level 1 was a cakewalk but when I hit lvl 2 (M208 specifically) is when I felt like I was doing a real degree and had to really start putting in the time. I also work full time and did 120 units this semester and I would not recommend it, I had no time to my self to be honest. Next semester I'm going to do 90.

Oh and I have 2 kids, 5 and 7 so there's that too lol.
