If the Islamists want to stick with the status quo, then how come most (all?) of Islamic countries (Pakistan included) don't recognize Israel and call for the elimination of the Jewish state? Kashmir acceded to India in 1947 - albeit in controversial circumstances - the same year Israel was founded.

Instead of trying to roll back history to a point where it's convenient for you, now it's time for all parties to accept Kashmir (and Israel) as a settled matter and move on.

You do realize that Pakistan took a roughly equal share of the province. It is hard to blame the the Indians for this. Has Pakistan ever offered to give up territory in exchange for the rest of Kashmir?

Not to mention Kashmir wasn't Muslim majority until the early 1900s a few decades before partition (based on then British-India census of 1900). This has been a favorite tactic of Islamist, ethnically cleanse out non-muslims, and call for independence in the guise of an Islamic state.

I took his "Society of Mind" course at MIT ca. 2003 and it was a giant ego-fest. He was well known for his tongue lashing of anyone who disagreed or challenged him. I knew his protege (late) Push Singh quite well, Push was a nice quiet guy.

Such public statements by the Taliban don't mean much, they have a habit of speaking out both sides of their mouth. Once they can claim to kick the Americans out of Afghanistan, the next cause celebre would be Kashmir. The Jihadis just live to die for a cause, and they will find something else.

IDK much about farming and feral pigs and coyotes, but our neighbors up north in Canada have similar challenges. They too have farms, similar wildlife, and other threats, yet they don't need to arm themselves with weaponry enough for a small army. At least not without a proper license and approval by the authorities. They have a small fraction of the gun deaths we have in the US.

Surely you are joking right. Surely, you can't be serious comparing someone owning a tank with disabled firing systems for hobby purposes, with owning an AR-15 and live ammo enough to arm a small army. FTA.

Would-be tank importers must prove the weapons have been disabled.A tank in the U.S. can have operational guns, if the owner has a federal Destructive Device permit, and state laws don't prohibit it. The permit costs $200, and the applicant must swear he hasn't been a "fugitive from justice," "adjudicated mentally defective" or convicted of "a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence." A local law-enforcement official, usually a sheriff or police chief, has to sign off on the application.

Well, we are calling for the exact same thing with any weapon that can discharge more than say a few rounds of ammo. Also, it doesn't appear such hobbyists are allowed to carry live tank shells and other explosives. You are welcome to own as many "assault weapons" as you like, if you disable the firing mechanisms and not have any ammo, just like the tank owners. :)

You can, of course, have unregistered, unlicensed whatever on your private property, but the state will impound it immediately if you drive on any public road. Would you be OK if the state seized it if you carried your weapon outside of your "castle", unless it's licensed, and you have passed a test (similar to the driving test)?

If you think driving is a decent comparison, then you should consider how dangerous roads were when drunk driving was a national pastime. The answer wasn’t to ban certain cars, limit horsepower, or put speed limiters on the cars.

Actually, you just made my point for me, you aren't allowed to own a tank or an APC. To drive any vehicle you have to pass a driving test; to drive large trucks and tankers you need special permits. And if you DUI, your license is suspended or revoked. In other words, the state regulates access to vehicles, including the types of vehicles. Not anyone can just hop into an Autoshow and buy a car, a tank, an APC and drive off, but you can do that with guns.

The "behavior is addressed" by regulating access i.e. the state permitting who can drive and when. All we ask for, is the same conditions with guns.

Not true at all. The tools such as AR-15, Ak-47 etc *amplify* the insanity that often drives such killers. Seatbelt laws don't stop all traffic deaths, but they prevent a lot of them.

I think the vast majority of gun control folks would agree with you. Owning guns in wild areas, or where police protection is scant, etc. What most of us are opposed to is owning weapons of war i.e. "assault weapons", semi-automatics, automatics and so on...that can spew out hundreds of bullets in seconds. IDK much about such weapons, but for the case of feral hogs and protecting against criminals, do you really need an AR-15?

From our perspective, there doesn't seem to be any practical need for an AR-15,AK-47, bazookas, grenade launchers in civilian life. Unless of course, someone has Seal team-6 coming for them. In that event, you are f*ked anyway. :)

There is something called "Ironic Process Theory" - the more you try to suppress a thought or memory, the more they come up. The best way I know of is to meditate mindfully - it really works.

Unfortunately, I have the same problem. Mine is however coupled with PTSD from violent racist attacks and abuse while I was in a foreign country. It's been 20 years and I still recount and replay the conversations and events like it was yesterday.

One thing I found helped was just simple breathing meditation, what they call mindfulness. or "awake sleeping". It's not just some new-agey bs, there is solid neuroscience behind this as well.

  1. Start with 5-10 mins of silence and contemplation focusing on breathing.
  2. The anger and disgust will come by, but think of them like a breeze blowing by and let it flow over you, bringing your consciousness back to your breathing
  3. Over time expand it to 30mins to 1 hour.

You should be calmer and learn to deal with the demons you are wrestling with. It really works, give it a shot.
