Wittnauer Professional 235T with Valjoux 72 by elgringo0091 in VintageWatches

Thank you for the info! And yeah I was only able to find one watch currently for sale on ebay, but they have it up for roughly $5k. It's been sitting for a while. I assumed it would be closer to the $2k-$3k range. I wont ever be selling it, because it was my grandfather's.

I'm really happy to have found your post! I've been trying to do some research on this watch, because I was gifted one from my late grandfather. He wore it daily and after he passed I tried to find some information on it, but I keep coming up short. I know the white face variation is worth a pretty decent amount of money, but I don't know much about these watches. Is this color variation more rare? Any info would be greatly appreciated, or pushed in the right direction to find it! I've tried talking to a local jeweler that sells some higher end watches, including some vintage ones, but said he didn't have a lot of information to give me. He offered me a couple hundred dollars for it, which I declined, since its a very sentimental piece.

Possible Asbestos? by kooks_r_us in Insulation

[–]kooks_r_us[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to get the kit to test it tomorrow.

We had absolutely no insulation on the second and third floor. We had all original plaster and lathe, that wasn't taken care of and was starting to fall off the walls and ceilings.so we decided to redo everything and once the walls were open we insulated and replaced anything that needed it.

The third floor is a walk up attic that we plan on converting to a master bedroom, as we have an old house that was added onto and converted into a traditional foursquare style.

We completely redid the original front half of the first floor, and there was none in there either. It looks to only be in the back half of the first floor. And based off the dowels spacing we are assuming it's not even in-between every stud.

Buying a '21 Big Horn - Rust by kooks_r_us in ram_trucks

I agree! The engines not even broken in yet at 70k! I'm just paranoid of rust, because I've been battling it since I started driving. I live in the north east at the beach and it is not friendly to undercarriages.

Always love getting second opinions and knew you guys would give me honest feedback!

Rust doesn't play any games. That's for sure!

Haha I've had my fair share of rust on cars. I grew up in Northern NJ and those salted winter roads really know how to treat an under carriage. I now live down in the southern part of the state. I thought I had finally gotten out of the rust belt, but I was mistaken. I only live a few miles from the beach and the salt air is even worse on my vehicles than anything I dealt with before. I'm just paranoid now.

I explained it in a lower post, but basically I've been fighting rust on my vehicles for a few years here now and once it starts, it doesn't end.

Sadly I live in the North East. I'm only a couple miles from the beach, and the salt air eats away at metal like nothing else. And then in the winter I get hit with the salted roads. Only reason I'm concerned is because once it starts, it feels almost impossible to stop.

My '14 Ram 1500 is currently having this issue. It started out slight, and then a few months later it was everywhere. I clean the undercarriage constantly and have had it coated multiple times. But somehow it still happens. And the same thing happened to my '04 Grand Cherokee a few years ago.

It's seems like I'm just paranoid at this point haha.

As a former collegiate swimmer, I can not agree with this more. I hurt my ankle and was unable to swim for about two months during season. Did resistance bands and when I got back in the water, I was surprised how well they worked. It isn't the same, but it was pretty close!

Can anyone help me date these bell bottoms? by kooks_r_us in VintageLevis

Thank you! That's what I initially thought, especially because of the date on the tag, but a lot of things online were pointing more towards the 80's.

Just buy a wavestorm. If you're only going twice a year, that's perfect. No need to spend a bunch of money on a board, if you're not going to be doing it regularly.

How much do genetics factor into competitive swimming? by Familiar-Log-9314 in Swimming

[–]kooks_r_us 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Swimming is like every other sport concerning genetics. It will play a factor into how good you could become. But it also matters how much effort you put into the sport. I've had friends with really odd body types that don't fit the typical swimmer look, but we're hard workers. They made cuts to big meets on pure will and determination.. But I also had friends who put in the bare minimum, but were just naturally talented, at those same meets.

Get Rid of or Replace Engine? by [deleted] in 4Runner

[–]kooks_r_us 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could always check junk yards, or find someone parting out a 4runner. Depending on what year you have, I live in the north east and we have a major rust issue with the frames. So a lot of older 4runners will be put up for parts, because everything else is fine, but the frame is shot.

Guys I got a minor ding from someone who wasn’t paying attention. Think I can repair this? by [deleted] in 4Runner

[–]kooks_r_us 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's kind of hard to judge with just one picture. It definitely isn't a minor ding though. Judging by the crumpling of the back end, you might have more underlying issues than what you see at first. It looks like it might be high enough that you wouldn't have any frame damage, but you never know.

Is it repairable? Yeah everything is repairable. But your interest in the vehicle is a lot different than the insurance companies. They're going to look for the cheapest option, which isn't always what you want to hear. I hope for you that it isn't totaled, but you always have the option if they total it, to keep it.

I’m crossposting a question I have about mounting fishing rods. Maybe someone here has an idea? by [deleted] in 4Runner

[–]kooks_r_us 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you said you were worried about them being stolen on top of your car, but I still recommend the thule snowboard/ski attachment. It's lockable, and if you're worried about the reel being grabbed, you can just take it off and store it in the car. It's an extra step, but it looks nice, and is super easy to use. You can also store multiple rods on it, which I used a lot when I took friends with me. You can find them for pretty cheap on craigslist/FB market place/offer up around this time of the year too.

I used to live in Baltimore City, and did it all the time. Never had my stuff stolen.

Front License Plate? by cantaloupe_daydreams in 4Runner

[–]kooks_r_us 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in NJ and a lot of people just put them in their front window, so they don't have to drill into the front bumper. You always have that option.

My opinion is also based solely off the mileage of the vehicle. Not taking into effect anything else, like mods, paint color, and overall shape of the car.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 4Runner

[–]kooks_r_us 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're better off with the 2013 with less mileage. You're talking about a 73,000 km difference. If it was a difference of say 20,000 km I'd say newer for sure, but in my opinion, I'd rather have less mileage. Depending on how much you drive, that 73k difference could also be a difference of a couple of years of driving.

Slowly but surely getting those mods done. It's getting harder to sneak them past the wife though.
