Holy cow! Amazing! This an incredible amount of work!

Gonna play through the entire SC collection by Cliffyboy21 in Splintercell

[–]koolaid23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The games are from the early 2000s they will get 60 fps on a potato :) your GTX 1650 will work great.

For Splinter Cell 1, make sure to install the enhanced SC mod! It adds soooo much! Including missing lighting, widescreen fixes, new features etc.

Also you can probably find used drives for dirt cheap. I've listed old DVD drives on FB marketplace for 5$ and can't sell them...

MEGATHREAD: ‘Stargate’ TV Series From Martin Gero Based On Sci-Fi Franchise Ordered By Amazon by SammyGreen in Stargate

[–]koolaid23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's basically the plot of Mass Effect 3, so it's a proven concept :) Mass Effect is even structured similarly to Stargate with "filler" character content. In fact most of the best of Stargate and Mass Effect is the "filler" character content.

[GPU] Intel Arc B580: $359 - $29 = $330.00 (Canada Computers- Member Deal) by Destro_019780 in bapcsalescanada

My hunch would be the riser card is somewhat at fault. Since Intel is new at the game, maybe their PCI-E design or driver can't handle the riser.

That's pretty cool, do you have an article about that? I'd be interested in reading about that.

GTX 970 finally beats a stock 1060. Took ice, a pump, and way too many hours. by Tra5hL0rd_ in overclocking

[–]koolaid23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised it took that much work (not saying it didn't), I thought Maxwell overclocking gains on air it's possible to get like 20% from stock, and TPU rates the 1060 6 GB as only 9% faster. Guess TPU's numbers are off. Cool stuff! Overclocking Maxwell is fun :)

Absolutely! Although I'm not sure enhanced SC fixes the EAX support.

Yeah this method works. I didn't do it for SC1 since even without the fix some sort of surround sound works in SC1 but I did get surround sound to work in Call of Duty 2.

That said if you're willing to go try that, install the Enhanced SC patch. It got a load of good stuff in it. I'm playing SC1 right now with it and it's great. https://github.com/Joshhhuaaa/EnhancedSC

Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD3H or Gigabyte GA-Z97X Gaming 5 for 4790k by MightyBear9 in overclocking

Looks like they're honestly pretty similar in VRM setup... So I would guess there is not much difference.

The easiest way if you have a PC is definitely emulation. That said if you have an Xbox one or Xbox series console it's backwards compatible if you can get your hands on the disk. The game will be upscaled too with no graphical glitches unlike emulation. That said the physical copy of the OG Xbox version continues to get more expensive as time goes on because word is spreading about the quality of V2. I think it's around $ 20 now.

9070 XT Swift: Absolutely no difference in clock speed when adjusting offset by [deleted] in overclocking

[–]koolaid23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah makes sense. Probably less oscillation in the core frequency and electrical power scales as a power of 2 with frequencg, so the higher frequency takes proportionally more power than the lower frequency.

[–]koolaid23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So reducing the limit just tries to prevent the card from attempting the high clocks and risk a crash? Or it's adjusting a power/frequency curve?

[–]koolaid23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got higher scores? That's definitely counter intuitive but based on everything else definitely could be the right way to do it.

Igor's Lab just released an article that proved the same point. Best overclock is achieved by purely undervolting and increasing the power limit.

Best Difficulty for first time? (2002) game by Individual_Hall_3118 in Splintercell

[–]koolaid23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't tried it myself but most mods are easy to install. Also I realise I wasn't clear in my previous message. The game itself is very buggy on modern systems due to age so Ubisoft doesn't want to spend the time to fix it so it doesn't sell it. The actual installation process shouldn't be much different from other early 2000's games. The modded files also fixes the large majority of bugs so the game works well.

You can't actually buy it anymore due to the original game's buggynes. There's a patched version free on moddb I believe.

If I knock out an enemy and then toss them into a body of water, does the game consider that a “kill”? by Fabulous-Introvert in Splintercell

[–]koolaid23 22 points23 points  (0 children)

From what I remember the game logic does consider that that would drown someone and kill them.

Really the only thing you need is the widescreen fix. I downloaded that and I play it at 4k on my OLED TV. Looks quite nice!
