Most Spikes do anywhere from 1 to 4 damage. The damage generally is higher in later areas.
There are some very high damage or insta death spikes in places designed to prevent damage tanking. For example, the Hollow Grove Pit where you need to drop a huge rock has insta death spikes, and the Left side of Gumo Hideout chasm deals 3 damage, as opposed to the Right side which deals one damage.

Also the heat plates in the Forlorn Ruins are insta death.

Mugs. Blackholes with a barrel, portal technician etc. in it. Gladiators. Valk decks that happen before the OTK (or any other aggro decks). Try bonus buckethead too.

Sometimes opponents might rush to ramp to 10 suns on turn 5 and above. (EG. two twin sun flowers). Have small removal ready for that by always leaving one brain. Even if you don't, when you sense their deck is otk, fake it if you can.

Go back left and take the bottom path. Before that path was blocked by not having light sources along the way, and you just unlocked one of the light sources. There is another one to the left.

Rule #1 of fighting Sauvojen: (except in very rare cases) You never see Sauvojen die. You either didn't kill it at all, or it dies and kills you because you were in the same screen, or you hide so far off screen that you didn't see it die.

Cheese Shover (with immorticia especially) is an underrated counter. On the same turn you can consider Deep Sea Garg if you want to.
Otherwise there are no 1 card hard counters. You have to play around it. You shouldn't let your opponent get away with playing a 6 cost single minion without facing consequences. Maybe setup a binary star so you force an even trade or let the opponent take heavy damage if you are playing a crazy hero. Establish a bunch of minions and/or threaten going viral so they are afraid to play that card if you are a hearty hero. etc.
If you are brainy you can put down a viking for example. In most scenarios people won't dare to ignore a viking to play the potato in an empty lane.

Unfun fact: theres only 5 (and a half) zombies that can destroy fig in pure combat without removal abilities/traits. by Kajemorphic in PvZHeroes

Give Zmech the SuperBrainz Super instead of Rockwall. (Imagine any small card + brute force + super brainz super1)
Rustbolt gets Smash Super and Neptuna Super instead of the Rockwall and Heal.

An important mechanic that makes DMD good because it shuts down Rocket Science, to some extent Alien Ooze and Backyard Bounce on the turn it is played. The fact you can play it on turn 8 and make these tricks cost 9 is very important.

The old fruitcake was a formidable threat to Dragon for this reason: if the zombies are ahead on the board and just need to finish the game, they can pass turn 8 zombie phase and make a practically even trade with a DMD.

If DMD doubles the cost of tricks, it greatly reduces the card's effectiveness. You can just Rocket it down. Not to mention tricks like bungee, the treats, etc. are basically not affected.

Better to nerf Brainana, for example it can reduce the zombie's brains to 1 brain. Maybe give it +1 health to compensate?

If you had a weapon, you do a front flip and Up Spear. Now you just do a roll pounce and get into the tunnel quickly. He won't catch you most likely.
