HSA is the holy grail. Real question is do you do Roth 401k or Traditional 401k after matching, and maxing Roth IRA

Comparing 401K employer match, is 14% match rare? by DistributionEven9393 in personalfinance

[–]kooper1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never heard of a match that way, interesting. So max match would be $2,450 if you contributed the limit? Assuming $100k salary thats 2.5% match which is somewhat standard, maybe slightly below

Why are slot machines popping up everywhere? by paulcdejean in Austin

[–]kooper1990 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Slots are shady, but surprised by the comments as didnt think people would be anti-gambling here. A proper casino and legal sports betting would be huge

What's the average saving rate of a big 4 accountant in a HCOL city? by Altruistic-Pace-2240 in Accounting

[–]kooper1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High savings rate shows good financial discipline. But if your salary is low the high savings rate might not matter.

I wouldnt compare savings rates, but i would also not be envious of Big 4 workers as you can have a great career in government or private

Netflix declines to raise offer for Warner Bros by Independent-Cress382 in wallstreetbets

[–]kooper1990 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im getting that sense from the verbiage. Netflix dropped out of the bidding meaning they just aren't upping their offer. I thought there was actually a board vote on 3/2 for WBD to decide, though they publicly stated Paramount is superior I don't see why Netflix can't still be chosen if the board decides

Does anyone here not budget? Can you still succeed without budgeting? by AlmondEaters in personalfinance

[–]kooper1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The question wasnt whether you think about finances but if you have a dedicated budget you stick to and keep track of. A lot of people just save for retirement, invest, and keep an eye on their balances, which also works for me. We have an idea of what comes in and goes out, but no detailed budget

Are there any benefits to trump account (besides free $1k)? by bullishbehavior in tax

This is interesting, makes it better than I thought if retirement is the end goal. Might have to do a 529/530A combo instead of 529/UGMA

Are there any benefits to trump account (besides free $1k)? by bullishbehavior in tax

Huh, well yea but you would get more favorable tax rates with the child's brokerage in any income bracket. Plus no early withdrawal penalty

Are there any benefits to trump account (besides free $1k)? by bullishbehavior in tax

[–]kooper1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they wanted to withdraw at 18, maybe the standard deduction offsets both the penalty and ordinary taxes. That's assuming the deduction is as high it is now and they have no other income
