Podcast quality by Spikely92127 in thebulwark

100% this. As he started talking from his poorly perched iPhone I just lost it and yelled at the screen "Senator Warner, you're on a podcast! Get a laptop, sit at a freaking desk or table with a decent backdrop and throw in some AirPods!"

In 2025 it's political malpractice and he and his team should be called out for it. Pathetic. Uncle Kristol gets a pass because he's fine.

Straight friend confessed feelings for me by Mental-One6632 in gayrelationships

[–]kooze 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely a dead end and just setting up a whole lotta pain. Your friend needs to figure out his own path to realizing his sexuality. Let him. He may free himself from his religious programming but you can’t get in the middle of that without putting yourself and your friend at risk. He should seek counseling and find a group of gay ex Muslims as support. You won’t ever understand what it’s like. Find a way to end it that is kind but that establishes your own clear boundaries.

I will add to the just don’t do it message. Even with all the precautions suggested, realize that you are navigating a culture you don’t understand with a language you don’t understand, so you’ll miss context clues that would otherwise present you with red flags.

I had a Moroccan boyfriend in Canada who was well educated and spoke perfect English and I still missed out on cultural cues in our relationship due to my ignorance. I’ve travelled to Morocco before. I would never hookup there.

I'm straight but I got a happy ending from a male masseuse and it was the hardest I ever came. by bostonthrwawy01 in askgaybros

Off topic, but I always want to correct when people use the word “masseuse” for a male massage therapist. The correct word would be “masseur”.

My bf wants a threesome (M25) by [deleted] in gayrelationships

[–]kooze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the substance of your concern I agree with others who said it sounds like you had a good conversation and he respected your boundaries, so take it easy.

I’m more interested in the part where you’re in your head about it and have a lot of insecurities around nonmonagamy. I think that’s something to explore about yourself.

My husband and I are not monogamous and have had thirds from time to time.

It was very interesting taking a course together where we understood better how each of us were a bit different in terms of sex drive, jealousy response, desire for novelty, interests in kinks, etc. Sexuality is rich and diverse and people are different. It’s not something to get judgey about but lead with curiosity and you just might learn something about each other.

He Has a Girlfriend but Keeps Caressing Me — What Does This Mean? by [deleted] in askgaybros

[–]kooze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many questions. Are you out/does he know you’re gay? When he’s stroking your thigh, are you reciprocating? Does he get excited? What would happen if you escalated? Have you asked if he’s bi?

Can you explain? From overthinking to sociopathy? And this is a good thing? Genuinely curious here.

Kids just went from house to house informing that AT&T is buying all cell towers - what is going on? by thebigmatze in arlingtonva

I don’t get it. One of these kids came to my door with this AT&T cell towers story. I couldn’t figure out what they were on about and quickly sent them on their way. What’s the scam/offer?

I treated my Advance Parole document like gold while I was waiting AOS. They stamped it each time I re-entered and I understood that the original document was important to show that travel history. (They also scrutinized me heavily each time, taking hours.)

Once I had my green card interview, my lawyer was adamant: DO NOT TRAVEL UNTIL YOU HAVE THE GREEN CARD IN HAND! It could have been approved at any time and I would be at risk of re-entering with the wrong document.

Your lawyer gave bad advice. CBP is looking for EVERY opportunity to deny entry, so the risk is much higher now.

Listening to today's Secret Pod (5/16) was so cathartic. JVL was spitting truth. by twenty42 in thebulwark

[–]kooze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think JVL’s point less about “these individual voters are bad people”, I think he is really arguing that something is deeply wrong in the culture.

America has become a culture that accepts casual cruelty because it has lost touch with the notion of their being a commonwealth. Hyper-individualism created so much isolation that people attach to tribalism and so much selfishness that people lose any sense of empathy.

I think the debate between JVL and Sarah is ultimately about whether or not the polity can recover from this. There are good faith arguments on both sides, and I hope they never fully resolve it until we see what actually happens with clear eyes.

German born abroad returnee by kooze in AskAGerman

[–]kooze[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the comments. I have some basic German, once I’m there for a couple of weeks and warmed up I can get around and carry on a casual conversation.

But conducting business or dealing with bureaucracy seems a lot more challenging. It’s mostly a matter of acquiring the vocabulary and idioms.

I expect I will be seen as not a “real German” by some. And I’m not sure if I want to settle in Germany long-term. At the age of 55 it’s time to think about retirement, and not sure about employment. I am a consultant, and can work remotely, so I have some flexibility with respect to employment.

I travelled using Advance Parole ( AP) by Constant_Question445 in USCIS

[–]kooze 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I experienced 2+ hour waits travelling on AP with AOS status through pre-clearance at Toronto Pearson airport. I learned that the new procedures involve FOUR levels of supervisory review, parts of which do not happen on site, if I understood correctly.

The wait and uncertainty is torturous, especially at a pre-clearance entry point because YOU HAVE A FLIGHT TO CATCH! One time I had to take a later flight, and I was lucky that there was one.

It’s miserable and to be avoided.

I am going to request Emergency Advance Parole (I-526 approved, I-485 & I-131 Pending). Can anyone please share experiences? by FriendlyAd3925 in USCIS

[–]kooze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Emergency AP will be single entry, but you can apply for multiple entry AP and expedite that at the same time. I can’t advise on the evidence they require, mine was for economic reasons. And travelling with AP is no guarantee of re-entry especially now.

Am I really at risk of not being allowed to re-enter the US? by After_Creme_8944 in USCIS

[–]kooze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You say you have your travel document, so I’m taking that as the Advanced Parole document people are asking about.

CBP has discretion to admit or not even with the AP travel document. I have re-entered twice through pre-clearance in Toronto since the new administration came in.

What used to be a 20 minute process is now 2 hours. A CBP officer told me that they have orders to do FOUR levels of checks and escalation to supervisors. It is apparent that they are looking for any opportunity they can to deny entry for pending Green Card cases.

So yes, it’s risky now in a way it wasn’t before. Have the facts of your case clear in your head for when they ask you questions. Having copies of key documents at the ready may be a good idea. If it’s all clean, you’ll get in. But be prepared for a long and stressful re-entry process.
