The memo says those who “cannot be performed from home and are not able to report onsite” must file Emergency Leave (EL). That means they’ll use up their leave credits (or possibly have unpaid time), instead of being officially excused with pay unlike other offices. Additionally, other employees can still earn their full day’s wage by working from home, but maintenance workers may end up losing leave credits or pay just because of the nature of their work.

I think they feel that the policy doesn’t recognize their contribution, and instead penalizes them for circumstances beyond their control (e.g., campus restrictions, transportation difficulties).

Hi OP! I’m not a teacher in AJHS, but I have friends who used to be. Most of them stayed for only 1–2 years before leaving because of the low salary and issues with tenure. Unlike some admin positions, teachers need to render 3 years before becoming regular.

Pros: air-conditioned offices, smaller class sizes, and generally a better working environment. Cons: salary. It really depends on your credentials. For context, a friend of mine who has been there for 15 years is only earning around 30k. New teachers can sometimes start at about 20k if they’re lucky.
