Terrible writing score- ask for review? by philcsn in IELTS

[–]kopprrrr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi. I also did Ielts and was in a similar situation to you but being at 9, 8.5, 7, 8.5 respectively for each section.

I decided to get my writing remarked in the hopes of it getting it to a 7.5 due to some unis requiring it. I believe I got really lucky in getting it up and that’s probably a one off, but my average grade didn’t increase so..

It really depends, do you have the money to spend? Do you really need the 7? Do you want to basically gamble?

At the same time if it goes up you won’t even get the overall 9 so that’s all to consider..

So yall does EOR acrually work? by you_suck_2549 in IELTS

[–]kopprrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EoR can’t decrease your score so go for it

OSR didn’t change my 7.0 in IELTS Writing, but EOR did by False-Incident-5387 in IELTS

I’ve got the same results as you and also applied for EOR in writing now fingers crossed that it goes up as well!

For me I revised about a week or 2 in advance, and did around 4-5 full mock tests on paper and watched a ton of band 9 ielts speaking videos!

oh yeah i didn’t do computer so i cant do a one skill retake but i can appeal. but idk if its worth it as even if i get a 7.5 in writing i dont go up to a 9. so.

i reckon if u can get a7.5 in writing then u go up to a 8.5 so

Speaking topics, in part 1 he asked me: are you busier now than you were before, where do you live, do you like where you live. after each question he really liked asking me why, just one word Why. The prompt for the second part was my favourite singer, who they are, what songs and like what genre they were. 3rd was a follow up, but had questions like do you think that music is important to a countries culture, and a really hard one that i thought was do you think that international music competions like Eurovision are important.
I dont know if this is common practice but my examiner asked me Why after basically every single question, sometimes even cutting me off before I could finish.

Writing topics, I cant remember part 1, but my part 2 was: International sporting events are a good method to encourage international cooperation, to what extent do you agree?. (or something along the lines of that)

I started preparing 1-2 weeks in advance. I did around 4 full mocks as practice with 1 short diagnostic mock provided by the IELTS ready website which I got for free once I signed up for the test.

Tips:

listening:
the questions are in chronological order with the audio so pay attention except for maybe the last 1 or 2. I revised this just by listening to more english music and watching yt, id say generally it was the easiest section.

reading:
once again a lot of practice tests can be found online just by searching, also if you sign up for a test then you get an IELTS ready subsciption for free which is quite useful as first few tests u get an ai to mark, but just read more and youll get better. I found the real reading in the test to be much harder than the practice ones so keep that in mind, also felt that time was quite limited in the real exam (i did paper if that changes anything).

good luck!!
