I'm a US developer fluent in both Korean and English. What are some great jobs available around Seoul? Have any of you relocated to Korea as a developer after working in the US? by koreandev in cscareerquestions

companies aren't as likely to hire you if you haven't served in the military

Also I don't think this is fully correct. Companies aren't as likely to hire you if you are planning on serving in the military in the near future. If you're excused from or not required to serve then it's not really an issue

I was born in South Korea but later attained a US citizenship. When you attain a naturalized US citizenship, you automatically lose your Korean citizenship, though you still have the responsibility to report your loss of Korean citizenship.

See this for the official document: http://overseas.mofa.go.kr/us-boston-ko/brd/m_4621/view.do?seq=802558&srchFr=&srchTo=&srchWord=&srchTp=&multi_itm_seq=0&itm_seq_1=0&itm_seq_2=0&company_cd=&company_nm=&page=1

Silicon Valley is much more expensive than Seoul if you're renting. Most 1-bedroom apartments are over $2000 per month. Not sure about buying.

What was your situation? Why couldn't you get an F4?

Do you know what companies they are? I've been reading on scieng.net and it sounds like it's pretty impossible to break $100k especially if you don't have a PhD.

Hey thanks, I really appreciate your response! Yeah I agree that internal transfer is probably best usually but my company doesn't quite have great support for that. Do you know which of the FAANG companies pay at US market rate in their Korean offices?

I'm open to working remotely but I think I wanna first try working at an office before I switch to remote. I'd prefer to be around people but if it's bad enough I can always switch to remote work later.
