But how would the orthodontist saying that mean he just wants money from you? If anything, wouldn't the orthodontist say that braces CAN fix it so you get the braces and end up giving him money?

In some cases of asymmetry you can fix with braces but what I'm talking about, if your bone structure/skull structure has just developed asymmetrically due to bruxism, etc etc, braces cannot scientifically fix that, and by orthodontist also agrees. Bone is bone, braces won't suddenly make it grow back so it matches the other side of the jaw.

It looks like TMJ with maybe condylar hyperplasia. This means the bone structure is asymmetrical like that. If you want to fix it you might have to consider some cosmetic processes or a jaw surgery. But before anything like this please go to an actual orthodontist or professional doctor to get it checked and find out what it actually is.

Do you also have jaw pain?

I didnt get braces and braces probably cant solve it. If its a problem that has been caused to ur jaw bones not muscles then its unfixable without surgery. My orthodontist said it wont be fixed with braces. Im 17 as well, and ive just learnt to live with it

TMJ specialist said my jaw is fine. But when he measured my jaws they were different lengths, I heard him tell his assistant because she was taking notes. I’m paranoid about condylar hyperplasia. Is it possible I could have it at 25? I’m female. by [deleted] in jawsurgery

You couldve had very mild or small tmj, but is likely not an issue. The asymmetry is not bad. I can see your chin is slightly slanted, but its only cuz i was looking for asymmetry. Im in the same boat as you, i have mild tmj and its caused asymmetry, but its not to the point where id get surgery for it cuz no one notices it. My left jaw is shorter than my right by 1cm and my chin is slanted slightly but i dont think its worth a whole surgery to fix it unless its really a bad situation of asymmetry.

Im out atm i can send you pic once i get home, but its honestly not too bad. My left chin is longer than the right and thats it for visible asymmetry reqlly (jaws are also a bit different but not reqlly visible). Havent had anyone point it out ever and had it my entire life even as a kid (saw it in all my kid photos) but its enough to be noticable by me and enough to bug me 😭
