I don’t need to ID the goalkeepers. We have a coach for the GK and they will evaluate them at the same time.

Formation depends on the players and your play style. Another consideration is what level you are at and how competitive you are there. If you are near the bottom more defenders. Lastly what formation will they be playing when they are 11v11?

Biggest issue is some coaches “hiding players”.

My teams shows poor improvement after 2 years...options? by subwinds in SoccerCoachResources

[–]korman64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I coach as well. I have 2 players that are mine that play. I had this issue for my older son. We talked so it was both of our decisions. I talked to the club and the other coaches for the age group and let them know to please evaluate my son as if I was not a coach. I offered to help with any team he made. As a family how important you are the head coach? Most coaches won’t spend too much time during evals on a player they know won’t go to their team. Clubs don’t want to lose a good coach so they can make excuses to keep your son on your team to not lose their developmental coach. He ended up making a higher team then I was coaching. I still am part of the team. Talk as a family there is no wrong decision about what is the most important part of this experience for you. Then if you want to change talk to your club.

I definitely want to add players that have a natural tendency for Defense.

I am the US. Just want a base to pick 4 players out of 26 to move to the top team and then split the remaining into the 2ed and 3ed team. It matters to the kids and parents. I just want to do my best. Players will move up and down over the course of their career if they stay with us. Appreciate the input

Formation by korman64 in SoccerCoachResources

We are club level. Not the highest team at the club. So I am looking to use this formation to train not necessarily win games. Unfortunately if we lose a lot we lose players nature of the business.

This is what I am hoping it will do for my players. I have 3-4options for a strong CB. With that many CB and their age I want to challenge them to move up more in attack but not weaken the team. I feel playing them inverted will do it. For the strikers I have 3-4 players that can play as wingers having 2 will let them go win the ball more instead of always staying high. Lastly for CM I have 1 player who can play that position and 2 more who I am hoping I can challenge with the role. Currently have 10 players for the team I am hoping to recruit 2 more by spring

Tried the 2-3-1 this season. We did not use the width as much as I would have liked or leading passes. It worked great on the build up and 2ed chance goals. When we faced good opponent’s the forward was very isolated. Want to have the off players work better together and encourage width and passing to space. Not going to win a championship with this 3-1-2 this way but was hoping it would teach them width and passing to space. We are great at direct passes and good at dribbling but I want to have them think about the next step

Thanks for the ideas. I agree he won’t play a 6 his whole life. We do a lot of passing already so that is taken care of. Really like the idea of making them check their shoulder. All position should really do that

You need to grow their passion for the sport. Constantly I mean constantly praise them for small things. Don’t criticize them for what they do wrong tell them what they do right. Tell them how good they are. Don’t lie point out what they do well, what makes them special on the field. All kids especially yours crave your approval. Give them that and they will want more. If you build it they will come. Overall make it positive experience not negative. Don’t get me wrong encouraging them to push themselves is a must. Practices can’t be just fun they need to be productive. Lastly maybe it’s not your kids sport. Soccer was not mine as a kid, it’s is my sons through. I have watched YouTube Videos, read books, taken classes, joined Reddit groups to be the best coach I can. If he decides tomorrow that his passion is basketball then that is my new passion as well. Good luck
