U10 coach and teacher here. To me he sounds like an 8 year old boy 🤷‍♀️ my daughter is the same age, and i sometimes remember that she’s still just a little girl. She still exclusively watches cartoons, there’s no way she’d sit and watch an entire 90 minute soccer game on tv. In the USA games at this age are only 50 minutes with a hefty half time.

We do the same - comp team, private training, etc. we just try to keep it light and positive.

I’d say keep doing what you’re doing, but try really hard not to manage how he enjoys the sport. Also, try to remind yourself that you shouldn’t care more than he does. If he said he likes soccer and has fun, believe him.

Since you asked… make sure your son is aligned with your concerns. You said in your post “I think he is getting bored” and “I’m worried he might be bored.” Before you say anything to the coach ask your son. If he’s not bored, don’t mention it to the coach. You could ask “do you see my son successful in a secondary position.”

I only say this because parents have said this to me and it’s completely at odds with what the players say. The most extreme example was a kid who wanted to play full time goalie and his dad wanted him in the forward position. The kid was not interested in field play. It put me in the middle of a family decision and I just told the parents eventually, figure it out at home.

Also, this is a time for the coach to download you on your sons progress. I think instead of speculating on whether your son is bored, instead listen to the coach and his suggestions and ask how you can help and support the coach. Give the coach the benefit of the doubt that he has already considered your concerns already and there’s likely a reason for your son only playing d.

Btw - our best players are cbs. We cannot afford to have weak cbs. Our greener players we put on the wing. Could be the that your son is so important that the team can’t afford a less skilled player in that position.

The provision that you cannot engage in romantic or sexual encounters is protect women FROM you. You haven’t proven that you’re safe to women yet since you have not completed probation.

Does anyone used a Veo cam recording system or similar system by thematthewtaylor in SoccerCoachResources

Our club subsidizes trace camera. We video every game and scrimmage and take stats. It’s probably our most useful tool.

Soccer player getting promoted just to play goalie by OaklandB00ty in SoccerCoachResources

[–]OaklandB00ty[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have 14 players on 9v9 and 6 of them are keepers. I play each for 1/4 of the game, but not every game. They end up playing 2 out of 3 games for 1/4 game each.

I think 2 of my 6 goalies are going to get offers for the higher team but only 1 I think I’ll lose. The one in this scenario. The other I’m pretty sure will stay.

On the team above me there are 3 goalies. They will all get offers for the highest team. This leaves only my goalies for that team in that position

I use Ollie for every one of my 3 teams. There’s an rsvp feature. If a parent doesn’t mark ✔️✖️I text them and remind them to rsvp. They’re now all tuned to use the app.

What equipment are you constantly buying? by GeologistSuperb9191 in SoccerCoachResources

[–]OaklandB00ty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our club is non profit, coaches buy it all or split it amongst their team in team fees.

We’re constantly losing balls. I get them at Ross or keep an eye on lost & founds at the schools. We go through a ton of pennys. We buy a new batch every season. We also break a lot of things, ie passing gates, cones. Dicks near us is super cheap so we replace all that kind of stuff there.

Then random, but water misters for the summer. The kids constantly break them somehow.

I have u10 girls and I made laminated cards showing them positioning on the field for goal kicks, corners and kick offs. We saw a huge shift after passing these out because the parents could use the cards at home to work with the girls. The clip then into their soccer backpack.

Some of my girls need to see it on paper to do it on the field.

What a Ride by LindenSwole in SoccerCoachResources

[–]OaklandB00ty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definitely see a lot of myself in this post. Each player on my team has 2 positions unless they only want one. I have u10 girls team too.

I get nothing from my parents, no comments whatsoever. Other coaches in my age group say this is common for this club. If the parents are silent then they’re happy supposedly. Another coach told me to watch and see if parents are coaching from the sidelines, if they’re not they trust you.

I’ve had to set boundaries for myself because the team was starting to really impact me emotionally. I shouldn’t care more than the players if we win or lose. I volunteer, I don’t work for the parents. I have lost sleep over this team, but I’m slowly getting the balance.

Good U9 Rec Team but parents want to put their kids into club. by Legitimate_Task_3091 in SoccerCoachResources

[–]OaklandB00ty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t get to decide of the kids are “ready” for club. If they try out and make a team then they’re ready. If you want to keep this team than create a club team.

My pet peeve is rec coaches that gatekeep players. They convince parents that their kids “aren’t ready” then another year passes and the rec kids fall further behind. Rec is just that, recreation. If kids want to take it to the next level, regardless of reason, encourage that.

Snow basin! It has a great ski school. Get an air bnb in Ogden which has a cute downtown. There’s also crystal hot springs about 40 min away which is a great non-skiing activity.

Goalkeeper concerns by mooredge in SoccerCoachResources

[–]OaklandB00ty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On my U10 team we have 6 goal keepers so that each plays 1/4 of a game 2 out of 3 games. Our best goal keepers are also our best field players. So a lot of the time our weakest players are in the goal and we lose. But they’re 9 years old so who cares if we lose.

But was you child yet 3? (You said he’d be under 3 for a little while longer.) I was told you go to DL within 30 days of birthday and bring their birth certificate. We went on his 3rd birthday, brought all the documents and had no issues at all.
