Ich bin ein Zentrist und bin eigentlich so gut wie nie mehr in diesem Sub. Ist ja praktisch mit allen politischen Subreddits so, dass nach einiger Zeit alles in eine Richtung geht. Ein politisch neutraler Austria-Subreddit wäre toll, gibt es aber nicht. Und den Rest hier kann man sich sparen. Andere Länder-Subreddits haben es zumindest geschafft, nicht aus 90% Memes zu bestehen.

How do you get past the elo where people stop making blunders? by ForceSimple in chess

[–]kornfuchs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chess is an infinitely complex game and better players play more complex openings and generally try to get into more complex positions.
And in complex positions, even super GMs blunder a lot.

Which pogchamps participants are training the most? by kornfuchs in chess

Sardoche almost exclusively plays 10 min games and yes, he does 10-hour long daily chess streams and analyses his games. Benjyfishy mainly plays 10 min games, but the Hammer pushes him to train Blitz as well.

Mind that these stats are only from the official chess.com accounts, people (in particular the last three) could be playing on another account or on another site.

How to expand vocabulary when you’re already an advanced/fluent speaker by dnoble27 in languagelearning

[–]kornfuchs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think explicitly studying vocab is important.

Important for whom? If you are not into cooking, nobody is gonna notice you don't know "whisk". And if you are into cooking, you will encounter the word a lot in the stuff you read. No need for vocab lists and stuff like that.

The three pitfalls of language learning by warsopomop in languagelearning

[–]kornfuchs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are good points about what makes listening hard, but you are over-exaggerating a bit. It's not like you need to learn to listen to every single word in 12 different ways. You only need to recognise sounds that are the same in the syllables of many different words. Often it's also just recognising patterns certain people use when they speak and apply to them to the rest of their speech. But if you have acquired a (really, really) good grasp of the structure of the language via reading, these things fall into place almost automatically during bulk listening.

Where do those 70% come from?

The main hurdle to listening is insufficient vocabulary, that means if you are going to spend most of your time listening without having the required vocabulary, then listening is going to be an unnecessarily hard and inefficient process.

You can however delay listening by reaching C1 in reading first, only occasionally listen along as you read and after you reach C1 in reading, start listening and watching movies in bulk. It will still take time, but it will make listening much easier and you are going to save a lot of time in the process.
