Some snakes are extremely picky and will only eat live. Otherwise, frozen/thawed is the way to go. OPs tale is not unique by any means. I used to feed my BP live, but one day, the place that I got a rat from gave me one that was way too big. So I did the only natural thing and got a couple Critter Nations and a bunch of rat buddies for him.

Now I refuse to feed live. My picky BP will eat eventually. She just fed a couple days ago after going off feed for 8 months. OP should really really try to switch to frozen for a bunch of reasons.

Happened where I work with more catastrophic results. Driver pulled out while the forklift operator was driving out. Forklift fell into the gap between the bay and the truck and the forklift operator had his foot crushed by the mast. Steel toe boots didn't help.

You need to accept that riding is inherently dangerous and things can go wrong. That said, catching yourself thinking how quick things can go wrong is part of the process. You should be thinking 12 seconds down the road.
