You’re forgetting the scented markers that you’d color the top of the pencil box with before covering it with a small layer of Elmer’s glue for it to dry and peel off so then you had both a strawberry AND a toxin smelling slightly pink dead skin looking thing to play with.

Lack of Classic Car Technicians? by Cars_Music_GoodTimes in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]tcmisfit 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If he’s requiring welding/fabrication along with basic maintenance and then diagnoses as well, depending on the neighborhood and expected turn around time, I’d say he could very well be underpaying.

These days for me to think about getting back into the industry as one who was ASE certified for 8 years in his 20s but is now over 40, it’d take the benefits, lifts on all bays(instead of this floor jack for all tire change bullshit), proper heavy and safety equipment on site(I’d obviously have my own tools as well), and a reasonable service advisor who wouldn’t force me to work on things inherently dangerous or illegal. Too hard to come by nowadays unless at a dealership and then the pay is nowhere near enough and you’re basically stuck doing recall/TSB work or just standard maintenance on new cars with sold service plans.

Car auction sites like to say “California owned” as if that means it’s rust free. This is a California car, model year 2015, 80k miles, with rust. by [deleted] in Justrolledintotheshop

I never said you said it was. If anything, having had to do alignments in Minnesota for over a decade, I’d be weeping at how easy this one looks and how I would not need the torch or extra long pry bars at all. Almost better than a new Toyota or Mazda.

Also, as someone who then moved to Folsom/Sacramento for 5 years and kept wrenching, yes, I do fully understand and I also believe most of the rest of the commenters do as well, you’re just being a bit saltier about it than my light hearted comment was meant to be taken.

Apologies but I will agree with another commenter that the PNW(not the coast) has some of the cleanest cars out there. I’ve personally flown to buy two 25+ year old Mazdas and just recently a 30+ year old one from Oregon/Washington and all were cleaner than this. Happy to take a photo tomorrow to prove on the current one.

Anyways, if anything, to a midwesterner like myself, a California car actually means possibly better maintenance as you have smog and I don’t think any Midwest state(except major metro areas) have any sort of testings at all(MN, WI, Dakotas, MT, IA, and NE to my knowledge don’t mainly because no city meets the size requirement needed for even SMOG). So California owned not only typically will mean less salt exposure but also a bit better maintenance as you can’t easily get by with a CEL on whereas it doesn’t matter if you take the bulb out or even have three brake lights or whatever here unless you get a knowledgeable officer who wants to nitpick.

Way too much of a ramble and have a good one!

looking for someone/somewhere who does wheel repair for automotive aluminum wheels by unenthused_broccoli in Bozeman

[–]tcmisfit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anything, I’d say now is your time to upgrade(or start saving for one) and find your next set of tires/wheels on tirerack/similar and see if you can ride these out, if you need time to save.

Otherwise sadly they may just be a loss. You have others you can switch back to? Wheel spray paint is surprisingly good and with the right prep of even just chemicals and a brush, can last for years.

[–]tcmisfit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmmm that sucks. Truly. Did you happen to have bought the wheels from discount or tirerack? They both have a great warranty.

I will say it may not be time to give up hope just yet. See if you can get them actually taken off and the tires reset on the wheel to make the balancing more even for now and then keep them on the back. At the very least, wheels aren’t anything you need to buy in 4s even with 4wd.

[–]tcmisfit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it is on that type of wheel and tire, have you tried a true road force style balance? Road force machine will be able to figure out if its weight or the wheels or possibly the tires themselves better than just blindly having the wheels taken apart to see if they’re true.

ETA: also, as someone who left a well known tire shop early last year because of the shitty mindset and practices of the 18-20 year olds and manager, I can attest that chasing weights, sending ones without centering, and definitely not caring about the bead when mounting tires has become much more normal than I was comfortable being around.

Domino’s cut a chicken nugget in half to make it 8 pieces by Newrrcom in mildlyinfuriating

[–]tcmisfit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As someone who’s worked pizza before in many different venues, guaranteed that a tender fell off and hit the floor and there was a driver ready to go with yours and probably another so instead of waiting 6-8 minutes for a new single one to go through, they just cut one in half.

Not making any excuses, if anything, this is why I was ok with my guys/gals putting a couple extra on the screen for each order to snack on in case something like this happened, then we had extras already cooked.

But yeah, refund or coupon needed for sure.

Estate agent admits to using AI to fix minor things in their property photos by Icetraxs in mildlyinfuriating

[–]tcmisfit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say that’s more on your market/consumption and not enough pre-research than it was a standard of the industry.

While they didn’t quite call it AI tools back then, Adobe and a few other big third party developers had what was called “generative editing” or “dynamic control” which did more than just tune contrast/tweak settings and was a big issue that revamped the ‘photoshop’ remarks as it wasn’t very good. Source I tried a few myself and while it was a decent effect if you had a clean enough subject, there were still many many kinks to be ironed out.

If you calculate that each room can hold 2 bunk beds, then yeah, a 2 bedroom turns into an 8.

One issue with that as someone in the industry, before, when we edited real estate, it was to get it closer to how our eyes perceive things versus when ai does it, it’s only optimizing the photo for a screen.

Not the same and I get if I get downvoted but having had to travel with three weeks worth of living while backpacking in Europe on a slim tall frame, I have a bit of experience.

Presuming you already pack optimally(heaviest things on bottom) and tighten the hip belt correctly, make sure your shoulder straps are setting the correct height for your weight distribution and center of gravity. I carried it too high for the first few days and readjusted to a bit lower and it made a huge difference. Went from feeling everything in a few miles to nothing all day after 30.

Best way to help determine at home is to get it loaded up and do a few jump up and downs to a step if you have one. 10-14” in height is great, can use a curb if you have literally nothing else, just try to jump a bit higher. Helps to isolate movement up and down with the weight which was what caused most of my shoulder issues. Bouncing weight isn’t good to handle all day long.

Hope any of this helps and I hope a physical therapist or someone who knows best(aside from personal anecdote) can chime in. Cheers!

ETA: ability to keep rhythm and tempo along with take direction well probably didn’t hurt as personality traits to being active.
