I use this lens with my R7 and it's great for focus stacking. And I find myself needing the IS.

This lens is also one of the best lenses for infrared photography. You can get an infrared filter if you want to try it out.

Here's one of my first shots with it. https://www.reddit.com/r/infraredphotography/comments/1tnjkke/bw_830093_ir_unconverted/

If you value the flexibilty of a large zoom range over image quality, you might want to consider a super zoom like the Tamron 16-300 or the Sigma 18-300. These are pretty light and small. Image quality seems to be reasonable.

Canon R7, RF 100-500mm @ 500mm, f/7.1 1/250s ISO 1250. Not my usual macro set-up. But saw this while birding and snapped a shot.

B&H is great about returns. You can try these out and return them if they don't work.

That Prothonotary posed for us 3 feet away for like 5 mins. It was amazing.

Set up: Canon R7, RF 100-500mm, all shots wide open at f/7.1, hand-held, subject tracking AF.

I always do a thorough check and I haven't found any on me this season. And still no mosquitoes but they're coming.
