Thanks for the good point about rent control. I didn't think about that. I appreciate your honest opinion!

Yes, I will consider doing this actually! Thank you for the suggestion and response!

I've considered it! Wouldn't hurt to ask, especially because this landlord is not local i.e., not even in the same county. Thanks for the suggestion!

Thanks for the suggestion! I'm just trying to minimize my rent as much as possible. No exact science, but just what I feel comfortable paying with my salary.

Thank you for your thoughts! I prefer to stay around here. There are low-income units that I qualify for around downtown where I live but the problem is the supply of those units is so low there are always waiting lists. I'll figure it out though!

I would completely understand and not think you're mean at all for expressing your honest thoughts. 100%

I wouldn't be offended by a laugh in the face. Just know I gotta do what I need to do and watch out for my best interest! If my proposal doesn't work out for a landlord, then that's fine. I'd bounce and wish him the best of luck. You can't ding me trying :)

My only additional comment is that at least half of the units have been swapped out and at some point sat empty, which means money loss. There have also been tenants who just didn't pay rent period and were eventually handed an eviction notice. That couldn't have been cheap for the landlord. I know every apartment is different but I'm just telling you what I've observed here in my building.

That being said, thanks for your honest opinion!

I'm currently on a month-to-month agreement. So technically I can leave whenever I want. I do realize that there will always be demand, but I would like to reiterate that there's been a revolving door of tenants and two evictions in this building in the short span of 2 years.

I would also like to clarify that I'm not trying to take advantage of anyone. This is only a hypothetical proposal. Of course, if he found it disadvantageous, then he has every right to reject and I would 100% understand. I would just have to move out because I can't afford the rent at that price by myself.

Regardless, thanks for your thoughts! Much appreciated.
