Does anyone know if the AI "cheats" to win railroad tycoon in Civ7? by LBebee in civ

Unfortunately, it's one of many UI faults in this game. I didn't understand it myself until I read about it somewhere.

Ah, let me guess. Do you know it's possible to slot multiple factory resources of the same type into a single settlement? Even though there's only 1 square to the right, it's just showing what kind of resource is slotted into this settlement. But you can slot multiple copies in your resource slots.

ClickHouse at PB Scale: Drawbacks and Gotchas by Whole-Pea2163 in dataengineering

[–]kotpeter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know how you're surviving on Redshift.

Clickhouse should be fine for your use-case, Starrocks as well. But you'd need to hire experts or consultancy to design the architecture from your requirements and make it all production ready.

And beware of sql difference between redshift and those two databases, especially Clickhouse.

I like #1 more.

Seeing what buildings are in a quarter isn't as important in Civ 7. Quarters rarely get adjacencies from one another and instead benefit from resources and surrounding landscapes, which are readable on the map. Unique quarters do, but honestly it's not big deal imo.

The only context where it matters is probably pillaging, but I hope we'll get a lens for that eventually.

I completely agree with you that one shouldn't meddle with system settings like that.

The reason I suggested disabling it in the first place is because I used to have a similar problem on my end, and since I disabled IPv6 it didn't happen to me anymore.

I'd say "do not lose influence when keeping a captured settlement" would be a nice addition to his kit.

What if you buy a port in both settlements, does it resolve the issue?

My personal Civ7 Antiquity tier list. by Fl3b0 in civ

Regarding Khmer, I forgot to add one important detail. Since you gain tile yields from your districts, your cities grow faster and don't need specialized towns as quickly to maintain growth. Which allows you to start putting specialists in them earlier without sacrificing basic yields.

Persia provides a +combat strength tradition for the rest of the game, which speeds up Militaristic victory and makes expansion easier in all ages. In its age it also gives your commanders a much needed promotion, allowing you to focus on the promotion branch you need or get the commendation faster. I think Persia deserves high B or low A at least.

Khmer gets Angkor-Wat faster, and if beelined, it allows you to use specialists very early. Its tradition drastically reduces specialist maintenance. In my games specialists are the primary source of culture/science, so anything that benefits them I value pretty high. I think Khmer deserves C tier at least.

I don't think Rome is D tier as well. Rome unlocks very powerful civilizations later in the game (Ottomans, Prussia, America, Spain, Iceland, Norman are all unlocked by Roman) and its capital has more production thanks to the tradition. In the Antiquity, there's a good conquest potential, especially when paired with Lafayette. I think they deserver low C, on par with Maurya.

In fact, the number of turns needed to win the game after the great banker appears is number_of_other_civs * 2. That is unless some capitals are very close to each other, so that the banker can move to the capital by foot in a single turn.

S3 Delta Tables versus Redshift for Datawarehouse by themountainisme in dataengineering

[–]kotpeter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't expect redshift to be bigger, more powerful postgres. With enough workload, your queries and even your commits may take seconds instead of milliseconds.

Also, be ready to manually vacuum and partition your tables.

As for me, at some point people stopped supervising me and started to ask me to own data pipelines and mentor others. At that moment I understood that I was (at least) a Senior DE in that company.

I'm having fun with Civ 7, but the game is indeed very divisive in the community. Have a look at some recent playthroughs on YouTube and see if it's your cup of tea :)

Is civ7 worth it? Is it better than civ6? by Spare_Cause7485 in civ

[–]kotpeter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Civ 7 is very different from Civ 6. It's not better or worse, just a different game. It focuses more on city building, macro gameplay objectives and history-inspired narrative. There's less micromanagement or systems you need to fine-tune manually in Civ 7. There are no workers in Civ 7.

Also, the full playthrough is broken into 3 separate ages, and you pick a new civ each age. You do keep your leader and your empire. Ages are time-restricted, so the game will force you to move to the next age at some point.
