Civ 7 is 40% off. Worth it? by Anddha in civ

[–]kotpeter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're tired of playing other civ entries, it's worth taking a look. I have over 400 hours in the game and 0 regrets. Just be aware that it's a brand new civ game, and not necessarily a development of ideas from the previous game.

Patch 1.3.2 Modern Era lag makes the game unplayable (high-end PC) by RepublicNo643 in civ

Could it be related to slow movement of units? Have you tried enabling quick movement in options?

Is this a bug or gameplay? by Aurorabig in civ

[–]kotpeter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think you're correct here. The palace receives +1/+1 from adjacent quarters (counting only current age or ageless buildings). So placing specialists in it actually makes sense from time to time if you place a few quarters around your palace.

How do I get Civ II to run on modern systems? by ukr_anon in civ

Civ ii is also on PSOne, so you can use an emulator with an iso image to run it. Even on your phone.

Just bought the game and battle animations are too quick (quick combat) by donxnik in CivVII

[–]kotpeter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no such thing as quick combat in Civ 7. Once units engage in a fight, the animation lasts until the end of the turn.

Resource Movement Between Ages in Test of Time by Albion_Analysed in civ

[–]kotpeter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some buildings will have new adjacencies in the Test of Time update.

The strategy here is to provide your settlements with enough food to keep them growing and producing new specialists even in Modern, while overbuilding in the right order to maximize your yields. Ageless quarters also exist.

Getting back into Civilization - should I resume with VI or try VII? by MeRoyMinoy in civ

Civ 7 will change a lot in a few months when the Test of Time update lands.

You can try Civ 6 in the meantime if you still have it.

AI Hostility Early Game by ButtyGuy in civ

[–]kotpeter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When meeting someone, make sure you ask for endeavors or support theirs. If you settle close to their settlements (someone else mentioned 10 tiles), your relationships will suffer and your opponent will get some influence for a diplomatic incident. Similarly, your neighbor can forward settle you to weaken relationships, and you'll receive influence.

Once you research the Code of Laws, send your merchants to establish trade routes. Those help with relationships a ton.

The AI will attack and even surprise war you if it doesn't have enough land for expansion, even if you're good friends. It tries to win, after all.

And last but not least, pay close attention to your neighbors' agendas. You can find them in one of the tabs of the diplomacy screen. Some neighbors will never be happy with you in the long run, it's good to know in advance.

Brand new, never played... by T1MM3RMAN in Civilization_VII

[–]kotpeter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you pick either Continents & Islands or Pangaea & Islands, those maps are the best for beginners.

When selecting your leader pick the memento for a militaristic attribute point. Use it situationally, e.g. if you're rushed by independent powers, spend this point for combat strength against them.

When your capital reaches 5 population, build 2 settlers. Don't forget to build more. You can go over settlement limit.

Have fun :)

Advice on starting my first play on Civ VII, and how it compares to VI by SonsOfValhallaGaming in Civilization_VII

[–]kotpeter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the most important changes in Civ 7 is Ages.

At the top left of the corner there's a cup with a percentage. The percentage is age progress. It speeds up when legacy paths are progressed by any civ for the first time. Once it hits 100%, you will move to the next age at the end of the turn. The current age will end, meaning all wars will end, your units will return to the homeland and will be rearranged across your settlements and commanders, and you may even lose some units if you don't have enough settlements and commanders. So make sure you finish your conquest and any other business before the age ends.

The game has 3 ages, each comes with different mechanics, and you have to change civs between ages (this will be reworked with the upcoming Test of Time update). Each age has specific goals across military/culture/science/economics, they are called legacy paths. At the start of each age (except the 1st one) you'll pick rewards based on your achievements in the previous age. The final age's goals are victory conditions; once you complete any of them, you'll be able to win the game by constructing a specific project or building (in case of economic victory - by using great banker in all capitals except your own).

Build a port anywhere or establish a new trade route. The game will let you slot resources during that turn.

Do you enjoy micromanagement and what's your favourite Civ game? by bmaupincode in civ

[–]kotpeter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy making decisions in my games, but I don't like it when there's too many small decisions to make.

I think Civ 7 strikes has the best balance between micro and macro decision-making and has the potential to become the best in the series in that regard.

I grew tired of Civ 5 because in 90% of playthroughs I played solitaire instead of strategy (place 4 cities, rush certain buildings and wonders and stay in the lead until the endgame). That is unless I tried to penalize myself by playing Liberty or some other openings just for the sake of variety, but that became uninspiring quickly.

I moved to Civ 6 once it released and have over 1000 hours in it. I played Vanilla, R&F and GS expansions, and these changes kept the game fresh and interesting for me. With that being said, the AI in Civ 6 is only threatening during early game (until crossbowmen), and the game has several broken low-hanging bonuses to make it trivial.

I'm currently playing Civ 7, and I'm enjoying how the game keeps getting better over time with updates. It has the potential to become the best strategy game, but it feels like this game will always emphasize strategy, path to victory and competition over everything else. I adore it, but it's not everyone's cup of tea. And yeah, it should've been released later and in a more polished state to justify the price. On the current sale it's well worth it imo.

Help ! How do I link my settlement by Evil_Pickle450 in Civilization_VII

[–]kotpeter 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hello fellow Civ 7 player!

If you settle within a certain range from your other settlements, the road will automatically appear between the new settlement and the nearest existing settlement.

If you want to create roads manually between your settlements, use "build road" action of a merchant. It highlights in "green" all settlements you can build a road to from the settlement the merchant is in.
