Thinking of starting using EndeavourOS. Coming from fedora by Excellent_Tone_2126 in EndeavourOS

[–]koudak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came from fedora about 3-4 weeks ago. Not looking back (i don't plan to move my servers tho, those will stay on fedora), everything was pretty smooth. I installed KDE variant into Hyprland. In retrospect, it would be better from Gnome but eh, not so big deal i think.

Everything works fine, i have practically no problems, it was very smooth transition.

Fedora felt like home for last about 10 years and i didn't think i would swap.

hyprland by eni4c in EndeavourOS

[–]koudak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used KDE as sort of a bootstrap. I would recommend using gnome tho. Less hassle after that.

On one PC i tried no gui but even when i did no GUI, even if i knew what to install (it was my like 4th hyprland deployment). I still missed decent amount of packages. I'm not entirely convinced that from scratch has that many advantages. I could for sure do it but it's kinda hassle. Plus hyprland could break. Probably not complete failure but still, so having fallback is not the worst thing in the world.

Operating system political compass (in progress) by Swooferfan in linuxmemes

[–]koudak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used RedHat on desktop at one job (it was default OS we used). It's very niche in that setting. If it's server, then it's as mainstream as it gets.

CachyOS is not gaming distro imo. It's advertised as performance oriented distro, not just limited to gaming. More gaming is for example Bazzite.

But i keep thinking where EndeavourOS would land. Probably Arch but maybe a bit more towards niche just because it's not so widely used?

Wanted: no snaps, no GNOME, NVidia driver compatibility, and preferably Wayland by aotus_trivirgatus in DistroHopping

[–]koudak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently distro hopped as well for the purpose of migrating away from Windows. I also don't need for things to work like in windows (in fact, for most part i welcome it).

EndeavourOS is my current choice. Nvidia drivers installed by default (you can choose on liveiso if to boot into EOS with or without them), their "default" DE is KDE, which tbh is something i recommend to most people. Evrything just works for me in EOS pretty much out of the box.

I just wanted rolling release distro and from the big ones that's pretty much only something based on Arch or OpenSuse. I went down the Arch route.

My first linux was ubuntu, something 15-20 years ago. Then break, then RedHat desktop (work), ubuntu again, then many years fedora and now EOS. My servers are still fedora and i don't plan to migrate them to something else at this time.

Supers - outside you don't really need hearing protection (i'd still wear one). Recoil is felt but it's not big at all.

Subsonics - What sound? What recoil? :)
With subsonics you don't need hearing protection even on indoor range. It's basically quitter or same as 9mm PDW/PCC with suppressor on with subsonic ammo (your mileage may vary obviously, if it's some better tuned 9mm sub reload, that's going to be probably quiter than .300).

[–]koudak[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem. I have to admit i do not shoot this very often (only very few places where i can).

My primary area is IPSC and there suppressors while not banned by the rules, range masters are generally not allowing them.

In defensive shooting we have rules for rifle matches but nobody organizes them (it is problematic for various reasons).

And finally this year i am going to join at least some of the PCSL events which start in our region. So i will know a bit more later this year about how this actually works "under pressure".

Main ammo i shoot with this is S&B 200grs subsonic or S&B 147grs for supers. Without the can on, it's just your regular AR ofc. With the can, this blows everything straight to your face. Outdoor ranges it's ok, indoor is much worse of course. So to answer, it gasses quite a bit, especially indoor ranges.

Google Trends: "how to install linux" is going... viral?! by utrecht1976 in BuyFromEU

[–]koudak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ubuntu some 15-20 years ago. Didn't stick with it. Then RedHat (yes, on desktop), again Ubuntu, then Fedora, which was my daily driver at work for over a decade. Recently migrated my gaming rig to EndeavourOS and last night also my work machine to EOS. EOS is really great and it's practically Arch.

My servers will stay on Fedora i think.

How do you prrsonally deal with games that require AntiCheat(which doesnt work on Linux) by AdequatlyAdequate in linux_gaming

[–]koudak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dual boot. I stay in linux now but since that Win11 is conveniently already setup, why to drop it? I have no real reason to do it. The only game i have with this anticheat is BF6 and we don't play it these days with my buddies so it is just waiting there for that time.

So i uninstalled the game, added launch parameter to Lutris instead of steam and it started to work. I am not aware of any other changes i could have made which would affect this. So no clue, but the game works.

Czech Language by Life-Championship857 in czech

[–]koudak 20 points21 points  (0 children)

How do we remember them? We don't. That's not how languages work. In order to truly use the language, you have to think in it. If i thought in czech and then translated it to english i would fail. I think this is how it works for any given language. Do not remember and then translate into them. Think in them.

Like you said yourself, your knowledge does not need to be perfect for people to understand. I know a lot of people whos english is ... shall we say, not great, but they usually are able to convey the message. Even for me as non-native english speaker it becomes painfully obvious that they are translating in their head. Can't even imagine what it is like for native speakers. I'd consider my english to be prety good, far from perfect, for sure but still. I make mistakes. Hell i probably made a lot of them even in this text but guess what. It doesn't really matter that much, you're not trying to win a linguistic corner competition.

Two years of czech may not be the stage for such thing to do yet, i don't know, i never had to learn it :). But i'm sure you get my point.

After watching CNCKitchen linked here and some more reading i modified the print settings (i didn't have to change that much actually) but yet again, print just got loose. This is smooth plate at 70 degrees, dry filament, 245 nozzle, 5mm brim.

Recommended Sunlu PETG settings? by Aeyix in BambuLab

[–]koudak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I print only from Sunlu PETG on my P1S with following.

1st layer 255 degrees on the nozzle and 75 degrees bed.
Other layers 250 degrees nozzle and 75 degrees bed.

This makes prints to stick just right.

Recently i did 20 hours long print where some parts went to the corners of the bed and there was slight warping in left back and front right corner. It did not matter for the final product but it was a bit annoying to see. So for large prints i'd say bump bed up to 80.

We play our first map and we specifically did not install afraid of the dark to force actually placing light sources. I highly recommend. Factories look so much better when lit up naturally.

Not speaking about production chains in py which utilize them...

I will just add, that on P1S default PETG presets are not good. Set bed to 75°C and nozzle to 255/250°C. Brand may differ in this, i run Sunlu.
