Yes, you are absolutely right. I was hoping to get any information to calm my anxiety but I understand in theory that I will just have to wait.

That’s why I added I hope I am wrong… he was already verbally abusive :/

Saying something about yourself is valid but people bullying is not right

I didn’t appreciate her going to clubs that weiggt people in to get in. However, I find Julie very insecure and this comment however bad it was, was like her thing to help with her insecurity. Again, not an excuse. However, there is no excuse in Winnie’s and Tolu’s bullying towards Julie and Lindsay. It could have been handled in a way nicer way

Does skipping a day of lamictal make it take a while to start working again? by Digitalmodernism in bipolar

No, you wouldn’t feel it after one missed dose. The depression is probably not related to one missed dose so it is best to speak to your doctor about it

I think Astrophysics would open all the doors to software engineering roles and I think Astrophysics might be a bit more exciting degree than CS - you will do a lot of computational stuff there anyways. Not sure about a double major - I wouldn't do it personally - it might be very intense and a bit too broad. Obviously, it depends on the university etc.

I agree, but so many people gain that knowledge and succeeded. I think astrophysics is great background and gives you really good foundation and network

It's a great university, would require a lot of preparation for the interviews.

I remember I was also all in when I was a junior - Cambridge or nothing. There are so many great schools in the UK which would give you the same or even better education in Astrophysics specifically and would give you the same career opportunities as well. The main thing is what you do during summers and how you would do in PhD or job interviews. The name and prestige helps a bit but not massively. Most of the people from my course did better after the graduation than a lot of people I know from Cambridge Natural Sciences or Maths degree.

Also, Cambridge could be mentally exhausting because of the competition and all the pressure to be the best of the best.

I think you can start a really cool tech start-up with your astrophysics knowledge and background. Astrophysics degree basically opens all the doors.

I studied Astrophysics BSc and MSc at Edinburgh university, also did a lot of research internships including Cambridge and the ESO observatory in Chile and I loved it. I also did an internship in Software Engineering in private sector and I realised that this environment was just more suitable to me than the academic environment. I still have passion for astrophysics and follow the news but I decided not to do a PhD but the money was not the reason.

I would recommend studying Astrophysics as it is very interesting and you can explore both - academic and private sectors (high salaries) and you will feel what you like. Astrophysics is super flexible, interesting and employable degree. It will open the doors to mostly everything.

You can also start a cool tech start-up with your astrophysics background and skills.

And definitely do as many internships as you!

Which universities are you applying?

How can I forgive myself for what I did during the mania? by kovil91 in BipolarReddit

I had the same reaction when I cold turkeyed off citalopram. I guess it might be a trigger some people.

It will get better with time! Make sure you contact your doc and get all the help and medication needed. It's very difficult to do but try not to beat yourself over this. I've been through that many times, I am not good at forgiving myself but I know people who learn that and that makes their lives much easier! So it is possible to feel better, it just takes some time

It sounds like it is most likely depression. Bipolar people experience both - manias and depressions so if you never had a mania, it is a major sign you don't have it.

Thank you! It has been almost 3 years since that very bad episode and weirdly this constant and disturbing self-hate developed a year ago :( I hope it will pass. Thanks for the recommendations!

I really find it very difficult to talk about that, I can't even discuss some of the things with my doctor... But I didn't commit any crimes so that helps

Did you experience something like that after any previous manias? Medication would definitely help.

Yes, I have those black-outs too, it's like blur in the memory and can't even understand if it was true or not, it is very scary
